The actor, John Wilkes Booth, 26 years old, successful and popular in Washington was so fanatical that he wanted to kidnap Lincoln. With Lincoln as his hostage, the north should be forced to cease. Because of the surrender of the South, the only revenge left for Booth was to execute the president.
