A Rose: A Narrative Fiction
“ George!, George!” I could hear my own breathing. It was sharp and quick almost as if someone had just tried to strangle me. I felt a pair of hands on the back of my neck like how I’d done that day. My heart seemed like it was seconds away from bursting. “George! George!” I could hear a voice getting louder as it came closer and closer. Splash! I frantically got up as the cold water hit me. “ George, you were havin’ those dreams again,” Charlie explained as he held an empty glass.
I could feel the icy water running slowly down my face. The top of my shirt was completely soaked.
I looked up at Charlie. He was the same height as me, but he had blonde curly hair. His eyes were a sharp, light blue. He stood in front of me looking concerned.

Rose looked up and smiled her way over. I had a feeling that smile was going to disappear in a little while. “ I had been meaning to tell you something about myself,” I said as I slightly paused looking towards her. She seemed to have caught on that it was a serious matter and nodded her head indicating she was listening.
“ Remember how I told ya I came from a ranch. Well that’s not the entire story. I fled from the ranch,” I told her as she looked confused. I continued on telling Rose the entire story. From meeting Lennie, the incident in Salinas, working at the ranch, Curley’s wife’s death and finally Lennie’s death.
“ I killed him Rose, “ I said as I reached out for Rose’s hand. Rose snatched her hand away from me as she covered her mouth and ran out of the store. I can't believe it. I had finally told her. It broke my heart to see Rose walk away from me. The next morning at work I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see Rose. “ George, I understand what happened and why it happened. I couldn't think straight. All I thought about was the murder. It’s not your fault George. You did what you thought was right for you and Lennie. Sometimes you gotta overcome the wrong to do the right thing and that’s exactly what you did,” Rose said
