6102013 Monday 8:00pm Physical Therapist Assistant Program ESSAY 1. What do you believe a physical therapist would do on a daily basis? As a Physical Therapist Assistant, I believe I will be gaining complete handson experience everyday and be kept up with multiple aspects of my job field most of which includes hospital work, childcare, sports training and lastly, elderly care. To be able to interact and converse smoothly would be something crucial especially when being exposed to so many people who have been injured or distressed. I’m convinced the work effort put into the field of study will be fairly intense prior to becoming a PTA. I also know that PTA is growing popular in the demand of jobs. As far as home care goes, I believe that there’ll be a lot of travelling and paperwork involved day to day because of the hands on experience with athome patients and health notes being taken for patients. 2. Why are you interested in pursuing a career as a Physical Therapist Assistant? What appeals to me the most, is the experience, interaction, and care for new people all the time. I like that there will be a completion of an Associate of Science Degree after all hours and courses being finished. There is a yearly income of $40,000 for entrylevel college PTA graduates, the yearly income ranges from a wide variety of pay from $40,000 to well above $85,000 for the most experienced PTA. I also like that there is an immediate chance of me getting hired as an intern shooting straight out of college. Above all, the thing that sets this particular career apart from others is being able to choose whether the job is fast paced or slow paced depending on the branch that suits me best. I’m hoping to pursue and complete all of the above mentioned. 3. What are your experiences with Physical Therapy I’ve had a good amount of situations involving the work of Physical Therapy. My main experiences with physical therapy are being cared for after hyperextending my MCL during football…
All these responsibilities and services provided by the physician assistant are appointed and under the orders of a physician. When a patient is first walked into the physician’s office, the person that sees the patient before the main physician is the physician assistant. During this time, the P.A. examines the patient, reviews medical history, orders and interprets laboratory tests, and makes diagnoses of their own. The physician assistant later relays the information collected to the physician. Following this, the physician goes in and makes his or her own observations of the patient and recommends a remedy. As one can see through this process, the physician’s job has been made faster and easier. “In some cases, PAs also make house calls or go to hospitals and nursing care facilities to check on patients, after which they report back to the physician” (U.S. Department of Labor, 2011). Most physician assistants work in primary care offices and family doctor’s offices. However, some PAs do work in surgeries, orthopedics and…

In my life, I have been a patient too many times to say I am well familiar with different roles in health care. When I was fourteen I was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and after six months of treatment I decided I wanted to help others like the many clinicians that helped me. After I graduated high school I got a job at an outpatient physical therapy clinic and there my true passion began. This inspired me to apply and eventually get accepted into the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Gateway Community College. The Physical Therapist Assistant program at Gateway will help me reach my goal of becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant by developing my character professionally, giving me the knowledge to help patients, and pass my board to receive my license as a Physical Therapist Assistant.…

I would not like to supervise anyone, however supervision isn't a possible position in this field, especially if you're an assistant. This particular career includes a set schedule and certain hours, most therapists generally work a day shift from 8 am - 5 pm. The characteristic I'd need to work on is patience, I've got to be honest, I am a bit impatient at times, I'm working on it. Being a physical therapy assistant you must be a caring, mature, patient, and a helpful person if you're not, then this field probably isn't the best choice for someone without those…

During the summer before my senior year of high school, I was involved in one of the most influential opportunities I had ever encountered. I was given the chance to volunteer my time at Schneck Medical Center. I chose to volunteer in the rehabilitation department; this helped fuel my desire to want to become a physical therapist. While at the rehabilitation center, I got involved in multiple positions that taught me how to be a better leader and how to successfully use teamwork. Working in the office taught me leadership roles. While in the office, I had to check the patients in for their appointments and paged therapists for their appointments. This position showed me how to take charge and make sure that things in the rehabilitation center…
