A Brief Look At Marilyn Monroe
The person I’m doing my essay on is Marilyn Monroe. Her full name was actually Norma Jeane Mortenson, and she was born on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. She died on August 5, 1962, at the age of 36. She was a famous actress, model, and a little bit of a singer. I chose to do this essay on her because I had already new some information about her, but I just wanted to learn some more information about her job and her life. Marilyn Monroe grew up with a half sister Bernice Baker Miracle. She had never new who her father was but her mother was Gladys Baker Mortenson. Most of her childhood was spent switching from foster care and orphanages. She spent some time being raised by some family friends who were paid $25 an week by her mother.At …show more content…
Her occupations were Model, Actress, and Singer. In 1946 she signed a short-term contract with Twentieth Century-Fox, taking the screen name Marilyn Monroe. Her most successful roles were in the movies Bus Stop in 1956 and The Misfits in 1961. She was in a total of 28 films. In 1950 she played a small uncredited role in the movie Asphalt Jungle the reaped a mountain of fan mail. An appearance in All about eve in 1950 won her another contract from Fox and much recognition. In 1954 she married Joe DiMaggio and attendant publicity was enormous. In 1956 she married playwright Arthur Miller and briefly retired from movie making, although she co-starred with Sir Laurence Olivier in The Prince and the Showgirl in 1957. She traveled to New York City to attend a gala where she famously sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy with whom she was allegedly having an affair. After several months as a virtual recluse, she died from an overdose of sleeping pills in her Los Angeles home. Her death was ruled a “probable suicide”, though the conspiracy theories persisted. Marilyn Monroe’s relationship with her parents was very weak.As a child she went through the struggles and challenges of moving from foster cares and orphanages through her childhood. At one point she moved in with some family friends for a little bit. Later the family moved to West Virginia and they couldn’t afford to take her with them so she went and lived with her aunt.
