Soonerthon is a year-long fundraising event ending with a twelve-hour dance marathon in the spring. All the proceeds raised benefits The Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City through funding medical research and family support programs. The programming committee is in charge of planning every minute of the twelve-hour event dance marathon. Within the committee, my personal responsibility was to design and organize a children’s carnival at the main event for the “miracle kids” from the hospital. The joy that radiated from the children that passed through the carnival was contagious, not only to myself but also to the other 2,000 OU students that attended the Soonerthon event as well.…

It is really a special day to see all these runners participate in this Red legs Run. It shows how strong and supportive the Red Leg community and that there is always opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our youth. I projected that this race would hopefully raise 50,000$dollars. Ladies and Gentlemen. Today we have already raised over $180,000 and that number is continuing to rise. This number is unprecedented and I want to personally thank all of the sponsors and participants for helping us achieve our goal of 50,000. This money will be incorporated into the Red's community fund. This money will fund some of our outreach programs. Outreach programs include the Reds Rookie Success League, a free, coed, character-building program for 6-12 year olds in Greater Cincinnati. It will also fund Youth Baseball and Softball Funding, which underwrites expenses for more than 400 inner-city teams throughout Reds Country. Also, it will aid in Renovations of multiple baseball fields. The funds from this Red Leg Run will help restore over 325 baseball and softball…

This year’s event took place across the nation on October 28 and the residents of the Ocean Ridge Plantation were amongst the many volunteers across the country giving of their time to help make an impact on their community. ORCA’s intent with this first-time endeavor was to inspire the residents of our community to work together for one day, for one cause. Under the direction of committee members George Briggs, Laura Wheaton, Corinne Eisenstein, Kath Larson, Pris Lovell and Beth Naylor, their ambition was to engage over 100 resident volunteers in a hands-on charitable activity – Ocean Ridge Goes M.A.D.D. – and by day’s end, they surpassed that…

Each year an organization called American Cancer Society travels around the world hosting an event called Relay for Life raising money to help cancer research. Communities around the world join together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones who have lost the fight to cancer and to fight back against the disease that has taken the lives of so many. Relay for life began thirty years ago by a man named Dr. Gordy Klatt a surgeon from Tacoma, Washington. Klatt was a man with a utopian vision, he wanted to raise money for his local American Cancer Society office. He did so by doing something he loved, running marathons. In May 1985, Klatt spent 24 hours running laps around a track for 83 miles at Baker Stadium at the University of Puget…

Beta Club is an academic based club for students who meet proper expectations set for GPA’s and character. In this club we raise money for the school and participate in a plethora of community service activities. HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is an organization committed to the knowledge of all things medical. In this club we host blood drives and other community events, some of which help fund our trips that we take to compete in district level competitions based on our choice of medical category that we individually specialize in. HOPE 4 A CURE is a club I specifically admire because we are constantly raising money for deserving causes that we get to witness change lives. For example, a young boy that goes to my church who suffers from random seizures and was in need of funds, this club helped raise a portion of the money that would allow him to get the proper treatment he needed at a research facility in Boston, Massachusetts. Lastly, I am a part of the Math Club; our main objective in this club is to raise enough money to provide three seniors in the club with scholarships based on the amount of money raised. The seniors chosen are based off of the need of financial aid and their overall character. Aside from this, the club also provides an environment where people with a common love for math can come together and learn more about…

Along with administering health care, my main goal for working in this setting is to be a positive influence in students’ lives and give back to the community by making the athletes that I serve into leaders. Being a leader and equipping others with the ability to become leaders is a passion of mine. What many people fail to notice is that this is a crucial time for many students as they attempt to grow into adults and not all coaches and athletic trainers seize the moment to support them along their journey. I want to be able to make an impact on students’ lives and change their…
