Laci Peterson, a 27-year-old wife who was eight months pregnant, disappeared on December 24, 2002. When the body of the California woman and her unborn child were found four months later, her husband, Scott, was charged with two counts of murder. Detective Craig Grogan gave a sworn statement that he had probable cause to believe Mr. Peterson committed two counts of the crime of 187 Penal Code, homicide, on or about December 23 or 24 of 2002, in the county of Stanislaus. April 17, 2003 the Judge of the Superior Court in Stanislaus County, California issued a warrant for the arrest of Scott Lee Peterson. The court found that the District Attorney’s office did, in fact, have probable cause to bring Scott Peterson in. The Judge specifically addressed bail in the warrant. No bail was granted. April 18, 2003, Scott Peterson was arrested at the Torrey Pines Golf Course, in Sand Diego County, California. At the time of his arrest, Peterson had colored his hair blonde, grown a beard and mustache, and was carrying $15,000.00 in cash. During his arrest police also discovered that Peterson’s car was full of camping and survival equipment. Peterson was arrested less than 20 minutes from the Mexican border. Peterson waived booking in San Mateo County, California, and was transferred back to Stanislaus County, California, where he was formally booked by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.…

    The Pickton Case Analysis

“Following Pickton’s conviction for murder in only six of these cases, the government of British Columbia conducted a public inquiry into police failures to investigate the disappearances in a timely manner” (Craig, 2014,pg. 4). This is mainly due to the failures of the RCMP and other municipalities on the fact that these organizations were blindsided by a serial killer who has been preying on women in the downtown eastside. With that said the missing women inquiry led by inquiry commissioner Wally Oppal outlined the pitfalls of the police in this investigation; “the police failed to take reports on missing women and act on them, the police were unable to identify the causes of these disappearances which posed significant risks to the public, there was a lack of investigative techniques employed and case management, and the police failed to co-ordinate with other agencies which was the most critical failure” (Oppal, 2012,…

Harvey found the bathtub running with Lulu’s clothes on the floor with Lulu nowhere in sight. While investigating the House after Wendell realized that everyone was trapped, the narrator said, This event gives clues that digs deeper into the fact that the lake shows the House’s darker side. This event gives Harvey a window to figure out that Hood is evil. Harvey observes Lulu gazing into the lake and standing precariously on the stones. Before Harvey startled Lulu at the lake, he observed that, “[Lulu] was perched on the slimy stones at the very edge of the [lake], gazing into [its] depth” (46). Lulu was “perched on the slimy stones”. A function, normal human being wouldn’t stand on slippery stones. That connects to the fact that Hood was hypnotizing and slowly transforming Lulu into a fish. This also connects to the fact that the lake reveals Hood/House’s darker side. Barker inserts hints through Lulu’s actions instead of inserting hints through Lulu’s traits and personality, a tactic that another, more generic author would’ve probably chosen. Barker’s clever hints raise suspicions and horror in both the reader’s mind and Harvey’s…

The factors that led Gilles LeClair to be charged of this crime and be sent to court was Ottawa police Det. John Monette had two main things to go on: a pathologist, who performed the autopsy and said Bev Leclair didn't drown by accident in their backyard pool; and that Mr. Leclair, a 57-year-old pub manager, spent too much time at work and not enough at home. Det. Monette had himself heard that complaint all the time at home. The Ottawa police detective usually worked cold cases. Just two days before Mrs. Leclair drowned in her pool in August 2003, police found the body of Ardeth Wood after she had gone missing along the Rockcliffe Parkway. That meant just about every talented homicide detective…
