There are more than 300,000 child soldiers and 10-30% of them are girls (Humans Rights Watch, 2001). In the last 15 years child soldiers has almost spread in every region of the world (10 Facts about Child Soldiers, 2003). There are child soldiers in 14 countries today. Some of the major countries are Uganda, Syria and Iraq. Uganda has more than 30,000 child soldiers (Children in Conflict, 2003). Child soldiers is legal but most countries signed the OPAC (Operational Protocol on the involvement of children in Armed conflicts)(Who are Child Soldiers, 2016). Since 2001 child soldiers have been recruited in 28 armed conflicts all around the world. At least 43 state armed forces train children for armed conflict but do not normally use them in this way until they turn 18(Who are Child Soldiers, 2016). SOS children works in many countries to help put an end to child soldiers (Children in Conflict, 2003). In December 2014 the former commander-in-chief of the forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo was the first convicted of the crime by the ICC (International Criminal Court).
