Mrs. Morell Module One: Discussion Questions 1.What are the different parenting styles used by families? Which do you think is better? Why?

The three different parenting styles used by familes are authoritarian style, permissive style and democratic style. In my opinion, the better style of the three is the democratic style. Reason being, I believe kids should be disciplined and learn how to behave in a controlled environment for the future, but I also believe children should have their voices heard. I also believe that kids should make their own decisions in life because they wont have their parents their whole lives and need to learn how to live and make decisions on their own. The democratic

There are three different types of parenting styles used by families, authoritarian, permissive and democratic. Authoritarian style is when the parents present themselves as absolute authority in all matters. Children do not argue with their parent’s decisions and they are taught respect for authority to instill strong moral character in them. The children aren’t allowed to speak their own opinion. Permissive Style is when parents let their children do things on their own and make their own choices. For example, when it comes to the child’s bedtime, homework, TV schedule and what they eat, etc. Last parenting style is democratic. This style is when parents use a both styles. Both parents and children are able to voice their needs and opinions. When the family makes decisions, it usually is up to the entire family, the parents have the final decision. This is an open-communication style. I feel that the democratic style is better than the other two parenting styles because it has a mix of both styles in it, there should be a fair amount of discipline and freedom.…

The first parenting style is authoritative which also tends to be the most successful type of parenting. Authoritative is when a parent is not being sheltering of a child but making sure the child has an understanding of the rules and regulations the parent has set in place but they explain the reasoning behind the decisions they make. Many of these children grow up to be very respectful of the needs of others. The children of an authoritative parent may also have a much higher self-esteem and are popular amongst their peers. There are four different major types of parenting styles in psychology today: authoritative, permissive, authoritarian and noninvolved. Each one of these parenting styles have different effects on the children raised. There are many different factors that determine what type of parent you are and what type of child you raise such as; the environment, the way the parents are raised, and society. Although the way a child is raised affects their lives studies show that children raised by completely different parenting styles can grow to have similar qualities and qualities, and children raised by the same parenting styles can have completely different qualities and personalities. Despite those challenges, researchers have convincing links between parenting styles and the effects on children. The type of parenting style is measured by: discipline straggles, warmth and nurturance, communication styles, and expectations of maturity and control.…
