The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser
The movie is a fascinating story of a boy who has been chained in a room for many years. The boy's name is Kaspar and the movie depicts his encounters with people and his constant to fit in society. The scene where the captor tries to teach Kaspar how to write properly by luring him with the reward of a horsey if he wrote well , is quite interesting. It shows how Kaspar was locked up in the room with a toy horse and how attatched he has become to it. It shows that humans inherently long for companionship. Kaspar is intrigued by fire but not scared from it. When he touches the flame of a candle he is hurt and tear drops start rolling down his cheeks. But he isn't crying like a normal human being does; his facial expressions do not change at all . The tears are formed as a physical reaction by the body to the pain. But the expressions are completely unknown to him and he doesn't know how to react when feeling pain. Kaspar is extremely fond of his name and even plants some seeds in the garden to form his name . He becomes extremely sad when someone steps on them. This shows how we as humans become attatched to a thing and become sad when we lose it. There is a scene in the movie where a professor asks Kaspar a question to test his intelligence and ability to understand. The answer given by him is logical and sound. Although the professor finds it completely unacceptable and says it does not follow reason and deductions. This shows that even though Kaspar had only studied for two years , he was bright. The people found it exceedingly difficult to accept that he may be smarter than them and didn't like his point of view on things , just becuse he was unordinary and different
