In this literacy narrative, Blogs Are Not Pseudo-Diaries by Stacy Yi, Stacy talks about her experiences writing about her time spent in the Dominican Republic the summer after she graduated high school. The thesis statement of this narrative is “Far more interesting, though, was my hands-on education in the possibilities of travel journalism, and the freedom that comes with disregarding expectations.” Stacy talks about how there were lots of people who wanted to be kept up to date with her experiences while she was in the Dominican so she set up a blog where she could easily do so. At first she wrote mainly about how she was enjoying her time, posted some pictures, and wrote about missing home, the things she thought she should be writing about. Things she thought people wanted to read about. Stacy began to grow bored with what she was writing and the views on her posts were dwindling, she could tell her readers were becoming bored as well. Soon she stopped posting all together, she thought it was pointless. One day, she had a conversation with the oldest daughter of her host family and she knew she wanted to write about her and Stacy decided to post it. She started posting about local soccer games, restaurant reviews, disagreements she had with members of the family, things she really liked to write about. She felt better about the things she was writing, she felt satisfied. Stacy felt that writing day to day posts would provide a lot of information but not capture the feel of her trip to the Dominican. She felt that to make a good record of her trip she needed to write about things were relevant to her trip and in ways that fir the experiences she had.…

In the begining of "10 Things.." the father, Walter, will not allow his youngest daughter, Bianca, to date until his oldest daughter Katarina, Kat for short, dates. He does this because he knows his eldest is not, in any way, interested in dating during highschool as proven by the following quote: "Have you seen the unwashed miscreants that go to that school?". Katarina is basically a teenage rebel who doesn't want to do what anybody expects. Bianca, in "10 Things", is a cheerful but sometimes snotty sophmore that thinks her sister is the bane to her existance. Meanwhile, at school there is a new boy by the name of Cameron. Cameron sees Bianca while taking a tour through his new school, called Padua, and falls instantly in love. His new friend Michael warns him away from her telling him that she is shallow, conceited, and her father won't let her date until her older sister does. Cameron doesn't care and decides to find a way to make Bianca fall in love with him. He learns of her need for a french tutor and decides to take up tutoring her while looking for a person to date Kat. After going through several interviews for what Michael and Cameron call "Extreme dating" they see bad-boy, Patrick. Patrick has a bad reputation and most kids are scared of him due to the rumors circulating about why…

One of the primary reasons for the continued attraction of this play is our fascination with its main character, Katherina, daughter of the wealthy Baptista Minola, and sister of much adored Bianca. She is seen at the start of the play to have shrew-like characteristics, but as the play progresses, she is turned “from a wild Kate to a Kate conformable as other household Kates” (2.1.270-271). Not only is Katherina relatable, she also provides responders with insights into their context and themselves.…

Women were motivated by societal expectations. A valued woman was obedient, passive and sweet. Bianca epitomizes these qualities and shapes her behavior around them. She exchanges vicious words with her sister in private, but while in the company of suitors she turns mild. Bianca’s father and her suitors determine who she marries, showing her surrender to men’s power and acceptance of obedience. In Kate’s concluding speech, she says, “A woman moved is like a fountain troubled, muddy, ill-seeming, thick, bereft of beauty, and while it is so, none…will deign to sip or touch one drop of it.”(5.2.151) Kate admits that an unpleasant, angry wife is undesirable and useless. Certainly no man will consider an ugly, rude woman worthy of his company. She finally relents to Petruchio’s taming and takes a woman’s normal place in the social hierarchy. Women conform to society’s strict expectations.…

The reader first meets Baptista and his daughters (Katherina and Bianca) in Act one, Scene one. In this scene Baptista declares that he will not allow either Hortensio or Lucentio to marry Bianca, until Katherina is, herself, married. “That is not to bestow my youngest daughter before I have a husband for the elder”. This makes the reader think that perhaps he favours his youngest daughter as he delays Bianca’s marriage when usually a father would have been happy to see his daughter, youngest or not, married off, especially if it was to a wealthy man such as Hortensio or Lucentio. When Baptista asks if either man loves Katherina and will court her, Gremio remarks sarcastically “To cart her rather!” Here Gremio is referring to the public humiliation of wayward women by conveying them through the streets or behind a cart. Katherina is, perhaps, annoyed at hearing her father say this, and asks “Is it your will to make a stale of me amongst these mates?” However, despite hearing his daughter’s anger and Gremio’s comment, Baptista is unmoving in his decision and orders Bianca to go into the house, “Go in, Bianca!” Baptista comes across as protective of his youngest daughter, or perhaps he merely recognises that Katherina’s wilful behaviour is what is preventing her from finding a husband and sees no other alternative way to marry her off than by having others do it for him.…
