1. Argumentation is a process of reasoning that asserts the soundness of a debatable position, belief, or conclusion. Persuasion refers to how a writer influences an audience to adopt a belief or follow a course of action. Argument is to fight over what is what but a persuasion is to get the other person to like your idea.
2. When developing an argumentative thesis, the writer must make the thesis debatable.
3. When dealing with opposition, the writer shouldn’t ignore argument against their position, they should identify the most obvious objections to their position. The writer can refute opposing arguments by showing that they are unsound, unfair, or weak. Refutation is the act of determining that something is false.
4. The rogerian argument is a conflict solving technique based on finding common ground instead of polarizing debate.
Begin by summarizing opposing viewpoints.
