1. What are the functions of the skeleton? support the body protection of internal organs - provide sight for tendon and other connective tissue attachment

- Hematopoiesis (blood formation)

3. What do bones need in order to be healthy?
-Calcium
4. Differentiate between tendons, ligaments and joints.
- A tendon is a tough band of fibrous connective tissue that usually connects muscle to bone and is capable of withstanding tension. - A joint is the location at which two or more bones make contact.
- A ligament is a short band of tough fibrous dense regular connective tissue composed mainly of long, stringy collagen fibers.
5. What are the 2 main divisions of the skeletal system? Differentiate between the 2 and what bones are within each.
Axial skeleton; skull, face, spine, and ribs and the Appendicular skeleton; arms, legs, pelvic and shoulder girdles
6. Give the four general categories of bones and their descriptions.
Long bones are wide and are found in your arms and legs
Short bones are fairly equal-sized in width and length, similar to a cube, and are mostly found in your wrists and ankles
Flat bones are thinner bones that can be either flat or curved and are platelike in nature
Irregular bones are like the parts of a jigsaw puzzle
7. What is the most commonly broken bone in the body?
