There are a lot of debates going on as to whether schools should have uniforms or not. In my opinion schools shouldn’t have school uniforms. My arguments are, first, having uniforms will not help the school environment. Second, some families can’t afford the cost of two different wardrobes. Finally, uniforms take away from the student’s style and individuality. Uniforms have more disadvantages than advantages.
The first reason why schools should not have uniforms is because having school uniforms will not help the school environment. Teachers may believe that uniforms will help stop bullying, but they won’t. Students can be bullied for other reasons. Some students do wear inappropriate clothing, but because of those few students the whole school shouldn’t be punished by having to wear uniforms. If schools have uniforms it will only be more difficult for teachers. School uniforms may confuse teachers because all students look similar. Uniforms don’t help the school environment at all.
The second reason why schools should not have uniforms is because some families can’t afford the cost of two different wardrobes. Students will still want regular clothes to wear outside of school. Uniforms are an additional expense for parents who pay taxes for free public education. Uniforms are really just a financial burden for poor families. The money that parents pay for uniforms is wasted because students can’t wear them outside of school. Getting uniforms is just like throwing your money down a drain.
The third reason why schools shouldn’t have uniforms is because uniforms take away from a student’s own style and individuality. Students can’t express their own individuality if they’re wearing a uniform. All uniforms do to students is create limits on how students express on their individuality. Why would schools even think about doing this to students, when they try to teach students to just be themselves?
In conclusion, schools should not have uniforms. Uniforms have a lot of disadvantages. To review uniforms don’t help the school environment, some families can’t afford the cost of two different wardrobes and, and uniforms take away from students individuality.
