Reflection Paper St Dominic
“Do not weep. I shall be of more use to you after death than I ever did in life.” In the movie, Dominic, Light of the Church, features St. Dominic’s life, his failures and successes, his contributions to the church as well as to those people around him. He already wonders why is it that there is a war, that there are people who hungers and that there are sufferings in the world since he was still a child. This led to a helping hand when he was studying in becoming a priest. You can also see in the movie that St. Dominic has a pure and kind heart that nourishes, motivates and inspires others’ souls.LMC St. Dominic said that the kind of preaching they offer differs from other kinds of preaching because when they teach the word of God, they deliver it with a heart, pure faith and sacrifice. I think St. Dominic founded the order of preachers because he started the act of telling others the existence of God together with his fellow priests. There are four pillars of Dominican life. These are the prayer, community, study and preaching. Prayer can always be seen in St. Dominic. He always prays for the poor and for the sufferings of the people. Community- the part when the war had began. St. Dominic united the people at that time and it defines the real meaning of community. Study- this is where St. Dominic is studying to become a priest. And preaching- he tells other people the glory and goodness of God.LMC St. Dominic was influenced by many circumstances at that time. The two persons that had great impact on him are Bishop Don Diego, and his mother, Jane of Aza. Because of these persons, he was greatly supported, and his profession of becoming a priest was very successful. LMC There is only one lesson I got in this movie—that is to love God. This love to God branches out to loving others, sacrificing one’s life to others, patience, sincerity, willingness to help others, and many more that St. Dominic exhibited during his short but fulfilling life here on earth.LMC

The charismatic renewal (CR) impacted Roman Catholics (RC) quite a lot. RCs have three documents that agree with the teachings of the CR. For example the Lumen Gentium says that each person that is baptised is holy and accepts the validity of the baptisms of other Christians. The second document is the Sacrosantum Concillium which calls each person to actively worship, opens up the possibility for all genres of music and encourages praying with others (main beliefs of CR). The final one is the Dei Verbum which promotes the renewal of the bible in prayer. RCs accept CR as authentic and relatively uncontroversial. Many Catholics were pleased to see the renewal of healing services and enjoyed praying freely and spontaneously in a way that felt natural to the bible. RCs were also impacted as the formation of an ecumenical bridge caused them to do research into the role of the Holy Spirit within their denomination.…

Peter teaches us, followers of Christ, key things to truly follow Christ. In 1 Peter, he stresses that Christians are to be God 's obedient children, "chosen race, royal priesthood, holy nation, God 's own people" (1:14). Us as Christians are striving to be a “human-like” Jesus if you will. We are God’s people on Earth doing his work for the work of Him. One example of a true believer is that you have encountered the true and living God and that you have undergone a change in your heart and soul. Another is realizing that the sacrifice of Christ alone for the forgiveness of his sins, then the Holy Spirit has come and lives in that person. The last example of being a true believer is that you are changed on the inside, not controlled from the outside. It means that your heart has been changed by the presence of God. These are just a couple of definitions that define a true follower. In the CCC 916 it states: “…to give themselves to God who is loved above all and, pursuing the perfection of charity in the service of the Kingdom, to signify and proclaim in the Church the glory of the world to come.” This paragraph supports Peter’s teachings about being a true follower of Christ.…

Pope John XXIII made some changes within the Catholic Church. Pope John XXIII removed the three ills of the church (Triumphalism- belief that the Catholic Church alone held the truth, Clericalism- The emphasis on clergy and exclusion of laity and Jurisdiction- legalism to the detriment of people), This was a very effective way of getting the laity involved in the church (esp. the youth) as the laity become active within the Church, lay people could take part in some sacred rituals of the church (alter server) and help distribute the Holy Eucharist. As for clergy, their job is to guide, nurture, and guard the laity, the clergy “is the shepherd of the flock”. As a result of these three Ills being removed, Christian adherents saw Catholicism as a denomination open to dialogue and a lot more welcoming than it was before.…

Throughout the history of the Catholic Church, there have been only a few people fortunate and deserving enough of the title of “saint”. He was a guy who was truly in love with the Lord and wanted to follow in his teachings. He was a man willing to give up his belongings to help those less-fortunate.
