The author is trying to prove to us that Victor is not insane, that he’s doing this for science. The author always goes back to Victor on how what he is doing isn’t right but he continues to do it.

This shows that Victor’s mind is full of death and decay. His obsession with bringing people back to life and creating the creature caused him to have all these thoughts.
