She is brought out of the house, and she bewails her fate and defends her actions one last time. She is taken away to her living tomb, with the Chorus expressing great sorrow for what is going to happen to her.
Tiresias, the blind prophet, enters. He warns Creon that Polyneices should now be urgently buried because the gods are displeased, refusing to accept any sacrifices or prayers from Thebes. Creon accuses Tiresias of being corrupt. Tiresias responds that because of Creon's mistakes, he will lose "a son of [his] own loins"[2] for the crimes of leaving Polyneices unburied and putting Antigone into the earth (he does not say that Antigone should not be condemned to death, only that it is improper to keep a living body underneath the earth). All of Greece will despise him, and the sacrificial offerings of Thebes will not be accepted by the gods. The Chorus, terrified, asks Creon to take their advice. He assents, and they tell him that he should free Antigone and bury Polyneices. Creon, shaken, agrees to do it. He leaves with a retinue of men to help him right his previous mistakes. The Chorus delivers a choral ode to the god Dionysus (god of wine and of the theater; this part is the offering to their patron god), and then a Messenger enters to tell them that Haemon has killed himself. Eurydice, Creon's wife and Haemon's mother, enters and asks the Messenger to tell her everything. The Messenger reports that Haemon and Antigone have both taken their own lives, Antigone by hanging herself, and Haemon by stabbing himself after finding the body, just after Polyneices was buried. Eurydice disappears into the palace.

    Antigone proves herself to be a very loyal family member when she states, “That must be your excuse, I suppose. But as for me, I will bury the brother I love” (Pro. 64-65). She cares not of the law set forth by Creon when it conflicts with her beliefs concerning loyalty to loved ones. She chose the law of the gods above all other decrees, disregarding that the cost is her life. Even after the body’s guards brush off the thin layer of dust to negate the effect of the prompt burial given by Antigone, the heroine risks life and limb to see that Polynieces receives a proper burial, and she is arrested in the process. Her retort to Creon’s accusations was, “I do. I deny nothing.” Antigone is confident in her choice at this point. Although many know of Homer, author of the Odyssey, many most likely don’t know Sophocles. Sophocles was the author of the Theban trilogy, a collection of three plays that examined philosophical themes and Greek life. Antigone, the second play in the series, is based around a major conflict between Creon and Antigone over the burial of Polyneices. The evidence is absolutely overwhelming for the burial of Polyneices. Haemon, Tiresias, Antigone, and practically every character in the play turn against Creon at the end of the play. These characters bring out Creon’s worst traits, such as stubbornness and pride.     Tiresias says: “The time is not far off when you shell pay back corpus for corpus, flesh of your own flesh. You have kept from the god’s … the child that is theirs. The one in a grave before her death, the other dead, denied the grave” (Scene 5, line 77). This shows foreshadowing in the plot, and it also shows that even though Creon was warned would still lose everything. In this scene there is a lot of foreshadowing for analyzing also. When it says “Pay back corpus for corpus” it would suggest that he will be giving something of himself, and he will be punished for what he did to Antigone. It also says that “The one in a grave before her death, the other dead, denied the grave.” This would suggest that those who die before Antigone’s death would be honored with the gods, but the ones that fall after her will not. Therefore, this leaves Creon unsympathetic do to the fact that he will die after Antigone because of his own doings. Tiresias says: “And your house will be full of men and women weeping, and curses will be hurled at you from a far cities grieving for sons unburied, left to rot before the walls of Thebes. These we my arrows, Creon: they are all for you” (Scene 5, line 84). Because of what Creon did to Antigone, and because the gods found favor with Antigone’s decision not Creon’s, everything will die.     Creon claims that his rule as king must be obeyed, even if it is wrong, in order to avoid anarchy and chaos, but the play does not side with him. Creon's first rule as king is that no one "shall entomb [Polyneices] or mourn, but leave unwept, unsepulchred, a welcome store for the birds, as they espy him, to feast on at will."
