American Literature Syllabus – Turner County High School

Course Title: American Literature
Course Description: This course is required of all students. Prerequisites are 9th Grade Literature and Composition and 10th World Literature and Composition. American Literature focuses on a study of American literature; the student develops an understanding of chronological context and the relevance of period structures in American literature. The student develops an understanding of the ways the period of a work of literature affects its structure and how the chronology of a work of literature affects its meaning. Required course (1 credit / full year)
