Before the late 1500s, it was deemed inappropriate for women to play in sports. It wasn’t until around 776 B.C. when women began to participate in foot races and even after women were allowed to compete in the Olympics, hey still had a hard time being accepted into athletic teams. However, these problems didńt seem to daunt Babe Didrikson.…
In 1972 a policy known as Title IX was written and mandated into Federal policy. Title IX states "no person.....shall, on the basis of sex .be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance" (Glenn Sacks, "Title IX Lawsuits are Endangering Men's College Sports," p. 3). Many high schools and colleges have not been able to comply with the Title IX standards mostly because of money. After more than 30 years since the beginning of Title IX, there is still no gender equality among men and women in sports.…
Soccer is often called “The Beautiful Game.” It is an incredible sport that brings together people of all different religions, races, and cultures. However, when one begins to discuss the politics of soccer, it can be anything but beautiful and incredible. There is a major salary gap between men and women soccer players. This gap is a more prevalent problem today because the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) is bringing in more revenue than the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT). The USWNT has also had a more successful career, winning the majority of their games within the last year. These points and other factors prove that they USWNT deserves more monetary recognition.…
The Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act has played a part in lowering the dropout rate among high school females. It has also helped reduce the number of female whom become pregnant. (Acosta, 95-96).…
Within four years of its implementation, the number of female athletes in the United States increased by six hundred percent, to include over two million participants. "As laws go, it has been a success. In 1972, one in twenty-seven high school girls participated in sports. That number has now…

A new style of women’s soccer has been developed based off of the number of players on the field, how the game is played, and the field that this sport is played on. New rules have been brought into the game of soccer such as the goal kick, corner kick, and penalty kick. Since referees have been brought into the game of women’s soccer, it has made a dramatic impact. Women’s soccer has gained enormously in popularity. It is no longer just a men’s sport and it is not only played in gym classes or occasion pick up games. Women’s soccer has now developed tournaments which requires participants to wear uniforms. Overall, women’s soccer has had several changes in their style of the game, new rules, and number of…
This past June marked the 40th anniversary of Title IX, a United States law stating that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. Although the wide spectrum in which Title IX covers includes many educational issues, its application to NCAA athletics has especially been confounded, because, unlike most educational institutions, athletic programs are gender-segregated by sport. In terms of intercollegiate athletics, Title IX essentially states that that all academic institutes of higher education are required to accommodate students with equal access to athletic participation, regardless of gender. This means that the overall number of athletic teams, scholarships, athletes, quality and quantity of athletic facilities, access to academic resources, access to physical treatment, along with an abundance of additional goods, services and resources offered by school’s athletic departments must be equal between men’s and women’s athletics. After forty years of this law being instated, it is evident that Title IX has accomplished its goal of providing equal opportunity to female athletes in collegiate athletics. However, unintentional negative outcomes have stemmed from this law, and is thus no longer acting in a positive manner for NCAA and should therefore be amended.…

Baseball was a big sport back in 1930-1940’s. The sport was only young guys who were also needed in World War II. Nobody could win the war without them and baseball couldn’t be played without them. That was until Phillip K. Wrigley came up with a brilliant idea. He was worried about baseball because he was the owner of the Chicago Cubs. That’s when he came up with the idea of young ladies playing baseball. Some things changed in the game but women taking over baseball helped Americans be able to focus on something other than war. “From 1943 to 1954 “Americans Past Time” was played in skirts.”…

It was very interesting. In the article it states that in 1989, a group of women who were married to football coaches met at the American Football Coaches Association convention in Nashville, Tennessee (Tucker, 2001) and decided to form a support group. Evidently, they were feeling a little let out of the loop. For many men, football allows for violence and male bonding (Nelson, 1994), however, for women, football often means competing for men’s attention, or worrying about boyfriends, husbands or sons on the field. Within this article it also talks about how the spheres changed because men were known to leave the home and go outside to work and women stayed inside and were domesticated. Football is for men and it classifies them as performers and heroes, however women are classified as watchers and admirers. This article overall is showing the differences in men and women in regards to football. There were a lot of different opinions by different people who had heard about the organization of the American Football Coaches’ Wives Association. How this group puts together recipe books and visits the sick children in the hospital was a great asset to the group but they still don’t get the recognition that the football players get. This was a very tougher paper for me to write due to the fact that even though I like football, I have never looked at it in any other way than occasional entertainment. I am not…

Despite not being accepted, many girls still join football because of how much they love the game. The National Federation of State High School Associations released that, “From 2007 to 2011, there has been a 17.5 percent increase of girls in high school football. The numbers of female students in high school football is inclining. According to the latest studies, about 1,531 girls played in the 2013 season.” The number of females who benefit by playing high school football is extremely high. Women are finding that football allows them to show what they are made of, no matter what gender they…
The soccer who most people watch around the world is the men one. The women soccer is not as broadcasted on TV as men’s, and the gap between it is not small. There are a huge difference on men’s and women’s soccer in terms of which one is more famous and broadcast around the world. The investment on women’s soccer is also not even close as they deserved.…
