Is to show mums how they can per swayed their sons and to make the men feel guilty for their mother’s shame.
How is this poem like this recruiting poster?
It shows how mums can put presser on their sons.

1.
He makes you feel ashamed by asking you what will you lack (for example) when the girls line up and what he means by that is if you haven’t gone to war you won’t get the girls or the thanks because you, lack that thing that the people who went to war do.
2. Stanza 1 – Firstly what if you’re gay? You might not feel bad by not getting women. Secondly, what if you did go to war to only be food a serviceman? Also what is you were shot through the mouth?
Stanza 2 – Well what if the kids knew what would happen to you, what if they knew you would die, and be blown up or shot to pieces? France is a different country, you don’t have to be with the French to help them, if they die it’s their fault. Well at least you don’t have to see the gore, blood and guts; you can live a normal free life. Over all you could help your friends with things that they cannot. If there legs were blown of you could help then get their kite out of a tree.
Stanza 3 – YOU DON’T HAVE TO DREAM OF GORE AND YOUR FRIENDS DYING! Also the more the men talk about the war the worst it will be for them, they just bottle up their feelings and can cause depression.

How is the last stanza effective in the last stanza? Why?
The last stanza is so effective because it’s saying that all the other men would do anything for their

The beginning of the poem starts out very depressing, the soldier talks as if they are old men on their death beds. ""Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge"(2), this line implies how miserable the soldier 's are, their sick, weak, and enduring unbearable conditions. They are walking toward their camp, which the poem tells us is quite a distance away. But they are so tired they are sleeping as they walk toward the camp. These men don 't even have sufficient clothing, some have lost their boots and most are covered in blood. "Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots / Of tried, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind"(6-7). This line tells us that these men are so exhausted they have become numb to the war and blood-shed around them. The soldier 's have become numb to the 5.9 inch caliber shells flying by their heads, the bombs bursting behind them, and their fallen comrades body 's lying next to them.…

I chose this poem because my dad is very relatable to the war considering he was in it. My dad joined the army when he was 20 years old in 1939. My father was in the army for a long time as many things. My dad has received many medals from the war. The poem connects me and my dad because he tells me all of his amazing stories of when he was in the war. This isn’t the best kind of experience like nothing else. When he tells me these stories I really feel connected to my dad like a bond.…

Both Sheers and Rosenburg show a clear opposition to war, describing the devastating effects both during and after. Sheers writes of the 'wasted young', conveying his view that war is but a pointless exercise that loses lives unnecessarily. In addition, he compares the soldiers' bodies in the ground to 'a wound working a foreign body to the surface of the skin', elucidating the fact that he believes the soldiers should not have been killed in such a way and so should not be where they lie. In the last stanza, he reintroduces this…

The poem has four stanzas, with rhyming couplets of ABAB. Each of the stanzas are aimed to make the men think about each perspective of every person they may have in their life. Cleverly, the first stanza is used to make men think about how the women are going to react when all the men who enlisted come back, making them question whether the girls will walk by them, or run up to them with proud nourishment and honour. Begbie writes ‘what will you lack sonny when the girls line up the street/shouting their love to the lads come back’ which encourages the men to join because they don’t want to be the only men without girls grateful of them, they will lack something all the soldiers didn’t – therefore explaining that some men joined in an attempt to get girls.…

The Poem Is Structured Into five stanzas with the first describing the speed of an attack on the town. The second describes the violence and damage left behind from the attack from the planes. In the third stanza it goes on to describe what should happen, the violence continues "It would not stop". The fourth shows the difference between the people, there are "the wild boys of the streets" who seem to enjoy what is happening. In the final Stanza It tells us that war brings out the most wild and primitive emotions in people…

In the second stanza the brother officer is introduced and he has lied to the mother about how her son had died. The brother officer is patronising to the mother in this stanza because he lies straight to her face about how her son had died and he is doing it so she would not suffer anymore. In the last stanza the brother officer is remembering how Jack had behaved in his last days. The brother officer portrays Jack as being a coward in his last days on the battlefields and this contradicts what he told the mother. The last stanza also shows that Jack tried to get home because of the hardships of war but died before he could. The last stanza also shows that no one cares about what happened to Jack except his mother the ‘Lonely woman with white hair’.…

The second stanza had a AABBAD rhyme structure . In the first stanza the speaker describes the situation since he is dead now. In the second stanza he addresses his living fellow soldiers, telling them to continue the fight. Since the poem can be divided into an octet (8 lindes) and a sextet (6 lines) with a turning point in between the form of the poem reminds us of the sonnet form.…

The author starts with simile after simile before he acquaints us to the subjects of the poem. I found this interesting, it took me a few times of reading this through, however I believe that he does this to show what war does to men. I have never been in the military and am giving my opinion from one on the outside looking in. I believe that it is very hard for me to relate to war and understand what it is truly like on the battlefield. As the author began with these similes I was able to gain a mental image. After I had this image I was then introduced to my subject. I believe that helped me to get a better understanding of how physically waring war can be on a man’s body. If I know that it is a soldier ahead of time I tend to place more of a heroic or invincible type figure in my mind.…

“And they’ll be proud of glorious war that shattered all their pride”. In this stanza there’s an enormous contradiction. The people say that the soldiers will one day be proud of what they achieved whilst in war , only to remember all the pain they had to go through. So in reality the glorious war that they fought did nothing else but shatter their pride.…

The reason why the author wants to make you feel that way so you can sign up for war and join the war not being afraid and not knowing how horrible it is. They have achieved this audience positioning as in World War 1 there were over 250,000 boys and young men under the age of 19 showing that the poem was successful convincing young men to join the war. Positioning the audience this way affected the issue as it has caused many young men to join the war thinking it will be fun and harmless, as it was the opposite. This also was an issue because most of the young men died or were seriously injured. Overtime there was a change as the soldiers of World War 1 first wanted to go to war and as during the war they have regrated it. The poet’s likely intention/motive for creating this poem was to convince young men to join World War 1.…
