Conflict
The conflict is a struggle between two people or things in a story. The main character is actually on one side of the central conflict.
On the other side, the main character may struggle against another important character, against the forces of nature, against society, or even against something inside himself or herself (feelings, emotions, illness).

Setting - the location and time frame in which the action of a narrative takes place, plays an important part in defining the plot of the story or play. It sets the background and manages the expectations of the reader, as the behavior and thoughts of fictional characters often depend on the environment as much as on their personal characteristics.…

The story is a personal and vivid remembrance of MAJOR HARVEY STOVALL- the Adjutant of the 918th, who was on a short vacation in England after the war. He chanced upon a “Zorro/Robinhood-replica Jar” in one of the antique stores, which brought back clear memories of his days in Archbury. The type of conflict supports the story by showing a man who is against the world and trying to build a life while also trying to not forget his roots. This is shown when the young man is playing basketball as he did as a child (367-368). The books ends with the protagonist living in the city and working in a high school exchange program (368). The last words the protagonist says are “I know how all of my dreams end anyway.” This shows that even though the protagonist now has a better job and he seems to be on the right track, he feels as if he’s not where he’s supposed to…

When discussing conflict everyone has their own definition, but it would generally be agreed that it requires a disagreement between individuals within a group. However, my definition of conflict would be a mental struggle between the character and a clash between two or more characters with different interests. A conflict presents itself in various forms. It may also come willingly or unwillingly affecting a person's mind or a person's actions. A conflict can either be a blessing or a curse. This essay will show how 3 books with different conflicts changed a character's life or the characters' way of thinking.…

Blood Red Snow, by Gunter K. Koschorrek is a graphic rendition of the German War in the Eastern front, which began in 1942. Koschorrek is a former German soldier who kept a frequent account of his experience in the steppes of Russia and the advancement of the German battalion in Stalingrad. Written as a memoir, Koschorrek’s writing serves as a first hand account of the tank and cavalry warfare in the Eastern front. Rather than glorifying the heroic aspects of death and destruction in war, Koschorrek’s strives to give a realistic account of the bitter struggle and retreat of the German army during World War II. His documentation of his experiences in Blood Red Snow serves as a tribute to the survivors as well as the fallen soldiers of the war. Koschorreck’s detailed report on the routine of his and his compatriots’ daily lives demonstrate his purpose in conveying the true struggles of the German army which became primarily concerned with survival rather than glory mongering for the nation. Gunter K. Koschorrek’s memoir Blood Red Snow, serves as a perfect example of how soldiers become disassociated with the strategies and reasoning for a war but continue to fight in order to survive and in order to protect the troops they fought along with.…
