Developed Countries and Disadvantaged
Many developed countries are paying increasing attention to the needs of the disadvantaged. How far is this true in Singapore? * In May 2011, Prime Minister Mr Lee realized the government's need to "lend a hand to those hurt by globalisation and technological changes that have, among other things, widened the gap between the rich and the poor" * The government is not only focusing on monetary assistance programmes, but also a sense of reassurance, concern and empathy. * Government also focuses on transforming and upgrading the domestic economy by raising productivity and not just expanding the workforce indefinitely. This will help fulfill the objective of raising incomes across the board, especially those of lower and middle income households. * One-third of the five Education Ministry-run kindergartens to open next year will be reserved for children from lower-income homes. Education Minister Heng Swee Keat understands that "Quality pre-school provides a good foundation for future learning. This is particularly so for children from the more disadvantaged backgrounds" * "Our Singapore Conversation" has brought up 12 commons aspirations, one of which termed as "Citizens' Perspectives", that is to have a society that takes care of its disadvantaged. It has played its part in forming the Budget 2013 which is well-received by its people. * Having international civil rights for the disabled to be transposed to Singapore. This is to raise awareness that the needs of the disabled is not about fixing their problems but rather adapting society to his abilities. A law which encourages citizens to see disabilities as being less biological and more social in nature so as to transform the society into one where the disabled are not seen as disadvantaged and have equal dignity and rights.

All human beings should live an equal life because you are not better than anyone in this class, you are equal to her, he is a human being just like him, you might be brown, she might be white but we should all be treated equally. Would you like being unable to communicate with others? Would you like being unable to read or write? Some people in the underdeveloped/ developing countries are not able to read nor write. We live in a sophisticated society, where developed countries want better education, better life style, and better healthcare. Whereas in the underdeveloped countries, they want a place where they can express their thoughts, a place where they can hold a pencil and place where they can learn about who they are. As Malala Yousafzai said “One child, one book, one pen, one teacher can change the world”. We do not appreciate how blessed we are, we do not know how the children of the underdeveloped/ developing countries are living their lives. And education is the key to success, education is the key to success, education is the key to success, education is the key to success, because I would have not been able to write what I wrote and read what I am about to read right now to you without education. I believe that in order for underdeveloped countries to develop, the richer nations should help the poorer nations by educating them. The richer countries can actually help underdeveloped countries by supporting them financially, sending volunteers to educate those who would like to be educated and by bringing some kids to the developed countries to educate them, because ignorance is created by the lack of education.…

The Rebuplic of India is a country which can be found in South Asia, bordering on China and neighbouring Nepal, Bandladesh and Pakistan. Indian dependence was granted in 1947 thanks to Ghandi and Nehru who non-violently resisted the British rule after Great Britian became the dominant political power in India in the early 19th century. It is considered to be one third of the size of the US. While it is the home of the famous Taj Mahal and Himilayas, in it's capital New Delhi lives 21.72 million residents out of the massive (approx.) 1,220,800,359 people who reside in India overall. That's over one billion people! It is estimated that by 2045, India's population will exceed that of China's and that by 2016, India's population will be larger than all the more developed countries combined! (eg. Australia, the US, Japan, countries of Europe, etc) That is a vast amount of people to be accountable for, which may one of the reasons that India is considered a developing country - that is, a country with a low gross domestic product (GDP), little access to technology and poor industry and limited trade arrangements. India's GDP is $3,900 per capita as of 2012. Other than the lack of population control, other reasons may include high income inequality, lack of apropriate fund management and the internal commotion that resides within the country. For example, India lacks unity, because although the most common language spoken is Hindi, only 41% of the population speaks it. However, 80% are united in the same religion, Hindu.…

Low birth rates means that the government will continue to be more liberal in allowing foreigners to come here as PRs or citizens. Singapore is currently facing an increase in the ageing population. With a total fertility rate of 1.2 and replacement rate of 2.1, Singapore will be facing a silver tsunami in 2030 where Singapore resident population will start to decline. The population will, moreover, age rapidly with the median age rising to 55 in 2050 from the current 39 years There will also be 1.7 working age persons per elderly person in 2050, down from the current 7.7. We will then experience a lower level of productivity and efficiency due to the shortage of human resource as the older generations go into retirement, which may lead into an economic slowdown for Singapore. The decline in the younger generation will pose a potential problem in the future, with the increase financial burden and emotional stress on the younger generations of caring and providing for the elderly. This may lead households to make a rational decision not to have children so as to maintain a "financially optimal" ratio of dependants and workers in the household, thus creating a vicious downward spiral for the society at large. I believe that as individuals, we are unprepared to accept the negative societal and economical impacts of a rapidly ageing population. This is where foreigners and immigrants come into use for Singapore. They will bring their families over or start a family here to make up for the low fertility rate, thus alleviating the problem of an ageing population. Thus, importing foreigners and immigrants becomes a necessity it becomes an implication to ensure…
