Attention Getter: What if one of your friends just fell to the ground because they couldn’t breathe, would you know what to do, could you perform CPR if it was needed? It is said by the American Heart Association that sadly 70% of Americans do not know how to do CPR, or they just don’t remember how. Central Idea: I want to inform you all that knowing CPR is very important. Preview of Points: Today we will explore the right ways to perform CPR, when you should and should not do it, and why you should learn it and become certified. 1.We will talk about when CPR should or should not be performed. a.CPR should not be performed if the victim is pulseless, if the victim is still breathing or if he or she has obvious signs of death. b.CPR should be performed if you notice that the victim is not breathing but has a slow pulse, if he or she goes into cardiac rest or if he or she has something blocking their airways. It is your job to get that person alert again until the rescuers come. Transition: Second.

2.We will talk about why it is important to learn CPR and why it is important to be certified. a.The life you save will most likely be someone that is close to you. b.Said by the American Association, nearly 383,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests occur annually, and 88 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home, so what if it happens to be one of your families in this situation?
