Zeus
Greek God: Zeus Zeus is the "Father of Gods and Men." He ruled over Mount Olympus, which is the mountain that twelve of the most important gods and goddesses lived on. According to Greek mythology, he was the god of the sky and of thunder. Zeus could create and throw lightning bolts as he rode across the sky on his winged horse called "Pegasus." He is also known for promoting justice. He was referred to as the "protector of the weak and punisher of the wicked." He is symbolized using a thunderbolt, an eagle, a bull, and an oak. His roman equivalent was Jupiter. Zeus is the son of Cronus and Rhea and the youngest of all of his siblings. His father swallowed all of his other siblings for fear of being replaced as king. So, when Rhea was about to give birth to Zeus, she went to a cave, gave birth to Zeus, and left him there in safety. She then gave Cronus a rock wrapped in blankets which he then swallowed. Zeus was raised by a woman named Gaia, a goat, and a nymph. He eventually overcame his father and became king. He also rescued his siblings from his father's stomach. His brother Hades was the god of the underworld and his brother Poseidon was the god of the sea. Most stories say that he was married to his sister, Hera, but according to the Iliad, he was married to Dione as well as the father of Aphrodite. He was also said to be the father of Athena, Apollo and Artemis, Hermes, Persephone (by Demeter), Dionysus, Perseus, Heracles, Helen of Troy, Minos, and the Muses. He slept with many women, including Antiope, Callisto, Danae, Europa, Electra, Taygete, Niobe, Io, Semele, Themis, Leda, Leto, Maria, Mnemosyne, Demeter and Alcmene. He was known for sleeping with whoever he wanted to and whenever he wanted to. He was able to change his shape and he often used this trick to seduce women. This caused lots of unfortunate situations with his mistresses, as Hera was a very jealous wife. He also was recognized as the "cloud gatherer" and was rarely
