Hades In Ancient Greece

There were many gods and goddesses in the parthenon of ancient greece. Every one of them had an individual power. Almost every festival in ancient greece was some sort of celebration for a god or goddess. Hades was the god of the underworld. In ancient Rome, he was called Pluto. First, Hades was a very mysterious god that rarely left his kingdom. Because he was a very solitary person, nobody knew what he looked like. His name in greek means unseen, though he is described as being muscular, pale from staying in his underground domain. He is said to have a dark beard and black clothing. He is most often pictured with his bident ( a two pronged spear that looks a bit like a pitchfork) and Cerberus (his three headed dog). His siblings include, Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Hestia and Chiron. He was married to Persephone, the daughter of Demeter. He had kidnapped Persephone and tricked her into eating a part of a pomegranate because if she ate food from the underworld, she would have to stay there. This had saddened her mother Demeter so much that all crops died. Zeus had Hades and Demeter compromise so that Persephone would stay with Hades for part of the year and she could stay with Demeter for the other part of the year. Furthermore, Hades has no story of his childhood. This is because as soon as he was born, his father swallowed him. All of his siblings had the same thing happen to them except Zeus. Zeus tricked Cronus into swallowing a potion that made him vomit up everything in his stomach. Hades helped his siblings overthrow Cronus and all the other Titans that in control. Zeus, Poseidon and Hades drew lots to see what their kingdoms would be. Hades did not draw very well so he received the dark and depressing underworld as his kingdom.
