Why Did Kansas Get Put On The Map As A State?
I believe that Kansas got put on the map as a state. When Meriwether Lewis and William Clark went on a journey to explore the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean to find a trade route ( pg 74). They found Kansas and when the journey was over they talked about how lush and beautiful Kansas was. That drove other explorers to go check it out. The two other explorers said it was a desert. That sparked a lot of interest in the state, getting everybody interested in Kansas. The U.S. heavily benefited because Kansas didn’t have much to offer and they needed to move the Indians because of manifest destiny.

The reason why I made my claim is because Kansas was just bought in the Louisiana Purchase and was never explored, and probably would’ve stayed

This one was used for a different reason, it was used for moving people to the unclaimed territory ( Washington, parts of Idaho, and parts of Oregon). This journey to the territory was influenced by manifest destiny. The idea to go to the territory was to not have to follow the government. The United States just moved the Indians to Kansas. With tons of people coming from everywhere, that intimidated the Indians, which led them to think that they were threats considering that they have been forced out of their area and driven into new areas. So some Indians were nice to the travelers while others were not so nice. They got into fights which led the United States to having to send military forces to Kansas. They built several frontier forts whose names were: Fort Leavenworth, and Fort Riley.

Fort Riley's purpose was to send troops and supplies along either the Sante Fe Trail or the Oregon- California Trail (pg 90). Fort Leavenworth became the jumping off point for soldiers going to both the Oregon territory and the southwest (pg 90). With the two major trails that made Kansas important, but now with the two frontier forts that brought more attention to the state of Kansas. That made Kansas a pretty important asset to the United
