Thesis and Body Paragraph
In this assignment, I have analyzed two creative works. The first one is “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin while the second is “Watson and the Shark” painting by John Singleton Copley. In each, I have identified open and closed thesis statements and later creatively drafted a body paragraph for each.

Open Thesis
The open thesis contains implicit information. They are not straightforward and do not give the reader all the information they want to know. For example, in “The Story of an Hour” Chopin suggests that Louise’s heart trouble is both physical and emotional.
Closed Thesis

Evidence: Ironically, after receiving the news of her husband’s death, she experiences a feeling of physical and emotional independence.
Explanation: While she is alone in her room, her heart begins to beat vigorously and races fast making her whole body feel warm and free for her future days.
Evidence: This feeling makes her spread her arms open, symbolically welcoming her new life. Her words, “Body and soul free” which she repeats to herself show the nature of the new independence brought about by her husband’s death.
Explanation: These shreds of evidence show that her heart trouble disappears after receiving the news of her husband’s death. However, her independence and joy only last for one hour which ends after Brently walks in, and her heart trouble reappears, this time it is so acute that it kills her.
Wrap up the sentence: Brently’s death had given Louise a glimpse of joy in the new life when it was swiftly taken away, the shock and disappointment heightened her heart trouble causing her
