March 20, 2015 Can you change overtime and overcome different conflicts that you did not expect.The
Fault in Our Stars is a novel that describes the emotional rollercoaster of Augustus Waters and
Hazel Grace. Some things that cause Hazel to change throughout the novel is Augustus Waters.
Hazel goes from being a “grenade” to being willing to accept those who come into her life.
Augustus Waters goes from wanting to be an “hero” to just wanting to “die”. The changes Hazel and Augustus had overcome in the novel has been proving because from the beginning to the end their thinking perspective has changed.
Something that allows Hazel to change throughout the novel is Augustus Waters. Hazel in the beginning of the novel is an idealistic cancer patient, who is depressed and constantly thinks about her death. Hazel at a young age was diagnosed with a terminal cancer. Due to her cancer, she fears that she will emotionally hurt those around her, which is shown through her calling herself a grenade. A piece of evidence that supports this is when Hazel says “I'm a grenade, and at some point I’m going to blow up and I would like to minimize the casualties okay?” In her relationship with Augustus she learns that she will have to accept the people who

come into her life and not worry about her death and the impact it will have on them. Hazel began to realize that people who entered her life was okay with being hurt when Augustus says
“it would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you” When Hazel heard Augustus say this she began to understand that she needs to live in the moment and not worrying about those who she will hurt. Another example is Hazel’s mom when her mom began working for her degree and
