Teenagers Tend to Commit Suicide
Estimate the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that almost one million people commit suicide every year. Within an hour, about 90 people killed themselves and a similar action in every 40 seconds.

Meanwhile, 60 per cent of the total annual suicides occur in Asia where most of the nearly 200,000 cases of China, India (100,000 cases) and Japan (32,000 cases).

In Malaysia, in the past ten years, between 10 to 13 people out of 100,000 people are estimated to commit suicide.

However, the rate is said to be less accurate and more budgeted for the study in several areas showed no suicides in this country is categorized as an unexplained death.

One thing is surprise and concern when adolescents aged 16 to 19 years to become the highest in people who have suicidal ideas.

Psychiatrist and Cognitive Therapy, University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Professor Dr. Thambu Maniam said, all the statistics released WHO and the development of suicide shows that incident into a serious public health problem.

He said that suicide seems to be seen as one solution remains the best and when one faces the problem of life is temporary.

Dr. Maniam said the WHO report proof of suicide occurs in all countries and in any religion, nation and race.

"The term suicidal behavior may be interpreted as encompassing behaviors idea of suicide, plans for suicide, self harm, suicide attempts and suicide.

"At the same time, risky behavior to health and healthy lifestyle is not done deliberately is also classified as suicides.

"The best example, a woman who attempted suicide but failed and then accidentally marries a drug addict infected with HIV, so she actually intends to want to die of HIV and AIDS," he said.

He was speaking at the lecture of Professor Dr. Prime. Maniam Thambu titled Life Or Death: The Perspective of Suicide in Psychiatric Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM), recently.
