Tatum Short Stories
Tatum woke up to the familiar sounds of crystal clear waves crashing on to the plush, silky white sand. The warm Pacific breeze made the green palms sway against his window. He looked outside, admiring the perfect Maui day. Sun shining, not unbearably hot, but not too cool. Snapping out of his daydream, Tatum realized he had to get ready for training.

Tatum frantically darted around the house to find everything he needed. He practically tripped over his dog, Reef.

"Oh gosh. Sorry, Reef," Tatum said. Regionals was eight days away and he needed to be fully prepared. Right when he was about to leave for the beach, he realized he was missing his wax. Without it, Tatum would slip off his board like a dog trying to ice skate.

How about you keep track of your own wax." Tatum rolled his eyes. "Older sisters are a pain," he thought. After looking through the drawers in his desk, he found it and jumped off his porch and ran to the beach.

"Come on Tatum. You need to paddle earlier to catch the wave," said Tatum's coach, Brad. Tatum nodded and grinned, but really thought he didn't need the critique. Tatum was a generally confident person, although some called him cocky and arrogant. He was independent and believed he didn't need anyone's help.

Ever since he was little, nothing gave him as much joy as catching a perfect wave and riding it in flawlessly. His parents were both surfers, so he basically grew up around it. Constantly traveling to different parts of the island, he was pretty familiar with every surf spot in Hawaii.

"Nice ride Tatum. I reckon you'll get through." He say, clapping Tatum on the back.

"Thanks!" With the optimistic words from the the coach it just made Tatum even more excited for the day of the competition. He had been waiting for surfing season since the end of the school year. To Tatum surfing was everything since his dad first showed him the ocean. Tatum was just two years
