Target Essay
Out of all the companies in the world today; the most awesome and interesting one for me is the Target Corporation (also more simply known as “Target”). Target is a store that sells many different foods, house ware items, clothing, seasonal items, electronics, outdoor fun, and much more. Most people have been to a Target store at least once in their life, for me though I have been there tons. That is actually connected to the most important reason why Target is my first pick, which is because I am part of their family; I have been working there for almost two years now (feels like more) and I am really enjoying it. After working with the other employees at Target and getting the flow of how the company runs, then I have been able to grasp that Target is a good apple.
Besides being a good apple from an employee’s point of view, it is also a great place for guest (which is what customers are called at Target) to shop. Target’s main focus is to help the guests in a ‘Fast, Fun, and Friendly’ atmosphere, to find what they need or answer their questions. With any business though, there is an objective to see how they can be more profitable and be better. That is what my main focus shall be on… the ‘problem’ of Target losing those sales and how they can improve their business. With working for Target; I get to see the “behind the scenes” type of deal and get to hear the different complains from the guest. By using their feedback, I shall be able to fix ‘mistakes’ and make the shopping experience at Target ideally better. In the end, this will hopefully bring more guests into Target, and make more happy people in the

An early strategic choice to build a brand around the Target name fostered the company's steady growth. From the very beginning, George Dayton's strategy was to position Target as an upscale discount chain at which the prices would be just above the lowest prices. To achieve this upscale image, it offered trendy and stylish goods in an environment that was bright and attractive, unlike other discount stores of the time (HBS Working Knowledge, 2004 para 2). Once a generic strategy is selected Target will also need to consider how to implement its grand strategy to ensure it correlates with its long term goals. In the following paragraphs it describes how Target has identified its best value, and how it has selected a strategy to ensure the company can achieve its long term goals.…

Penney, the last several years have been very successful for Target. Sales have risen from $64.9 billion in 2008 to $73.3 billion in 2012 with net earnings of $2.9 billion (Target Corporation Annual Report, 2012). Even though there have been some difficult economic times for retailers in the last five years, Target has managed to compete with Wal-Mart, grow revenues by almost $10 billion, maintain earnings, establish themselves as a trendy discount store and generously give to charity and education. I think their success speaks volumes for their employees, their management team and the planning and innovativeness of senior management and their Board of…

With the shopping world becoming more computerized, brick and mortar stores have to step up and make a great impression on customers. Being hired as a consultant for Target, I would implement a plan to utilize the four principal functions of a manager (Kinicki & Williams, 2013). I would devise a plan to provide an appealing facility that not only sells desirable products at a competitive price, but a facility that smells good, sounds good, and is clean. Employees would go through training that would educate them on technology of the store, products being sold, and customer service. Goals would be established for each department, and a clear understanding of achievement would be implemented.…

For Target the brand is the complete experience for its customers along with the addition of value for your money. This, of course, is only one strategy to stretch the growth of the company. Target has spent years building its brand image and its loyalty among its customers, which is the envy of the retailing world. Target has never been a company to use generic strategies to build their corporation into what it is today. They have needed to be an innovator in retailing and to develop their business model from the ground up. To the level that a corporation grows its business by building upon a core business strategy and the set of skills developed in that business, we can say that it is creating cooperation throughout the business.…
