Antisocial Personality Disorder is defined as “a mental condition in which a person has a long-term pattern of manipulating, exploiting, or violating the rights of others. This behavior is often criminal” (Berger). Not only do they have a pattern of negative behavior, those who have this disorder also withdraw from social situations as well. One of the findings learned with this course was 80% of those who face Antisocial Personality Disorder abuses substances. Within the Law and Order episode, Hunter abused alcohol throughout the entire episode, which seemed like his way to escape the way he was feeling deep down. Hunter believed his mother was not there for him when he needed her so he turned to alcohol for the support he was missing from his mother. Antisocial Personality Disorder is hereditary, which makes an individual with a family member with this disorder more prone to it. If a child has been previously diagnosed with a conduct disorder, it is common for them to develop Antisocial Personality Disorder (Mayo Clinic). Lastly, just like many other psychological disorders, if there is a past of violence or a traumatic experience can lead to this disorder. Similarly to the example provided with Hunter being molested at a young age, a traumatic experience like that can easily trigger this disorder to begin to form. There are also many complications that come with this disorder. Antisocial Personality Disorder becomes more noticeable over time, individuals have a possibility of risk factors. For example, since those with this disorder often isolate themselves from other, it is common for individuals to become depressed and in some cases face anxiety. There is no true prevention for this disorder but there are ways to make dealing with this disorder
