The position of a white female was somewhat considered terrible, as they basically stayed home, and be obedient to their husband. Not allowed to vote, work, nor have equal treatment as a man. Knowing the position of white women during the slaveholding world, the comparison to the life of African American women in the slaveholding world is drastically different. African American women were considered as investment and property. Investment in a sense of eventually producing kids, which in theory mean more slave. As property, the expectation of whatever a slave was to upheld was demanded, and the owner could have done whatever he or she pleased. Eliza and Patsy are two women who fell victim as an example of the ideology of that they are just investment and property. Eliza is not born and breaded as a slave like Patsy, therefore Eliza is weak willed and weeps the life that she has to now endure. Patsy is considered by her owner “Queen of the field”, born and breaded into the perfect slave. Mr. Epps view Patsy explains to his wife Patsy is too valuable to get rid of.
