What is the crisis?

On the night of 31 October 2000, Singapore Airlines Flight SQ006, at 11:18 P.M. local time (Taipei), took off from Chiang Kai-Shek Airport (Taipei) heading to Los Angeles (Marketeer, 2002). Before the taking off, the weather was enormously terrible due to Typhoon Xangasane (Christian Dougoud, 2012). There were 159 passengers and 20 crew members on the flight. The pilots were allowed to take the plane off along the 5L (left) runway, because 5R (right) runway was under construction according to the allowance of staffs from the Air Traffic Control Tower of Chiang Kai-Shek Airport (AviationXlPane, 2013). The situation in the Air Traffic Control (ATC), staffs did not notice that the plane was going in the wrong runway (Marketeer, 2002). The situation on the flight SQ006, before the pilots taxied the plane to 5L runway, they had thought that the plane reached the 5L runway already, but what they thought was wrong. The reason that they turned to the wrong runway because of the wind and the speed. Normally, before plane taking off the speed must be 16 knots, but SQ006 went at the speed at 9 knots as the regulation of terrible weather, so the pilots decided to turn into the runway earlier than it must be (AviationXlPane, 2013). The pilots asked for a permission to take off again because they could not see the runway clearly, and the ATC informed that the SQ006 was on 5L already. After the pilots were permitted to take off, as the plane was gaining to take off at 156 knots, suddenly, the left wing of the plane collided with the constructive tractor on the runway, the plane lost its balance and crashed down. Even though, the accident happened on the ground, but the plane broke into 2 parts and erupted into flames (Marketeer, 2002). The passengers who were in the middle body of the plane died the most, because the fuel was store at the middle part of the plane. Most of deaths came from; burned, choking of the smoke, and many passengers did not pay

    During the preflight and the flight the crew demonstrated how the lack of communication of small details can be deadly. The flight crew should have discussed and medication they were taking during the preflight. Also the flight crew should have discussed the decent and the landing while performing the steps. While in a holding pattern at Martinsville/Blue Ridge Airport the flight crew was given a minimum decent altitude by the controller and during their decent they should have notice they were well above that altitude.
