Should Scholarships Be Awarded to Students Who Are Well Off ?
I disagree to a large extent that scholarships should not be given to students who financially well off . Scholarship is often a some of money or other aid granted to a student due to merit in order for him to pursue his studies. If a student is financially well off, he or his family will have the ability to finance his education comfortably without any external help. Many scholars have been breaking their bonds with the companies that provided them with their scholarships in recent years. Many of these “bond-breakers” paid up their penalty when they terminated their bonds. This leads to many feeling that scholarships should not be given to students who are financially well off because they have the ability to finance the penalty. I believe that everyone should be given equal opportunities and also because scholarships are not only about the money but also the prestige that comes with it. However, I recognize the fact that there are many ungrateful students who do not deserve the scholarships.

I disagree those students who are wealthy to be deprived of a scholarship because firstly, everyone should be given a chance to be awarded a scholarship based on their ability. A student’s good performance should be recognized regardless of his financial background as it will be unfair if one qualifies for a scholarship based on merit but is deprived of it just because he is financially well off. Just like one of Singapore’s National Education message, we must uphold meritocracy and incorruptibility, which means everyone in this nation, should be given a level and fair playing field and anyone with the ability should be recognized. Thus, a scholarship should be awarded based on the applicant’s academic results as well as his achievements in other areas.

Secondly, scholarships allows the scholar to stand out in a group of applicants for a job which allows them to have a better job which eases the process of getting a job for himself. This also allows him to get more

I don’t only believe that $120,000 in debt is not only fair, but is just exceptionably too low. Education is important, so money is no object. One million dollars ought to be the norm of what students will pay to ensure that their future will be set. People know the higher the tuition the better the education, right? Any individual with brains enough to set off for college realizes that the universities with the most elevated educational cost are the best ones. It makes enough sense to charge college students with the price of a small house every year, so that by the end of their extremely satisfying college education they can spend the rest of their life paying off the debt. After students offer everything from their homes to their kidneys, they should pay back their loans.…

Current students give their opinion on whether or not they believe community college should be free and a student Felipe Bezerra says. “Tuition shouldn’t be free for those who can afford it.” I agree with Mr. Bezerra because community college tuition is not very high and if students who parents can afford to pay for their college should. Since waivers already exist for students with low income families they receive the help they need. Students also receive a pell grant, for families whose income is high their kids receive less however if college tuition is free than we are simply helping the families that can afford to pay their students education save money. Since community college is basically already free for low income students, we are really only providing help to the families who are not low…

According to Al Dunning in "Christian Science Monitor New Service", many good colleges are starting to lose a lot of money. "Most colleges and universities simply cannot afford it" (Dunning 1). Making scholarships means needing more workers, which means money is going and soon to be gone (Dunning 2). Scholarships should be rewarded to those who truly deserve it and are very talented. Many colleges well known for their athletic department may not be available to the younger generations due to all the money being spent earlier in the years. What if one of those people was you? I love to play soccer, and I plan on playing in college. But if many of the colleges are not available anymore, I have one less thing that I would love to be doing. I could have the possibility of doing what I hate for the rest of my life. Another reason, mentioned by Al Dunning as well, colleges are going broke is due to a notion proposed during the NCAA convention. The notion says to pay the athletes so that they would "suit up" and be suitable for more stuff (Dunning 1). If only the students that showed great potential were paid, much money would be saved. Clearly, increasing salaries are affecting many…

After doing research and analyzing others opinions, I still believe that student athletes should not be paid on top of getting scholarships from schools. The idea of it may sound great but the negative impacts it brings is not worth it, therefore being a student athlete and getting scholarships should be a big enough incentive to work hard and educate yourself to get a better and high paying job than others. It makes students and athletes work harder for what they want in life. Student athletes lives should stay the way they are today and not be paid on the…
