OUR ARGUMENT
What is Same Sex Marriage? Same Sex Marriage or also known as Gay Marriage is when two person of the same gender be entitled to be legal partner. Most people feel that Same Sex Marriage is immoral and we are here today to present our view.
As an orientation, Homosexuality refers to "an enduring pattern of or disposition to experience sexual, affection, or romantic attractions" primarily or exclusively to people of the same gender. It also refers to an individual 's sense of personal and social identity based on those attractions, behaviors expressing them, and membership in a community of others who share them.
1) What is the issue?
Should homosexuality be legalized in Singapore?
2) What is the claim?
Homosexuality should not be legalized in Singapore.
3) What are the reasons and evidence to support the claim?
a) Act of homosexuality violates the natural law
Some may argue that the very act of homosexuality violates the nature law. The most basic task that any animals are supposed to do is to reproduce and carry on their own species, this rule works for human beings too. As we all know, reproduction can only occur between two people of the opposite gender. Homosexuality is unable to fulfill this fundamental task as it involves two person of the same gender. Thus, we argued that Homosexuality is unnatural.
b) Acceptance of society (Religion/General Public)
Many religions believe that Same Sex Marriage is a sin or an insult to god. As quoted from the Christianity Holy Bible, the act of homosexuality is a deadly sin. People that are very religious would definitely condemn this people that are gay.
Whenever one violates the natural moral order established by God, one sins and offends God. Same sex “marriage” does just this. Accordingly, anyone who professes to love God must be opposed to it.
Laws are a reflection of the values of the society.
By legalizing homosexuality, Singapore becomes its official and active promoter.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong mentioned during a speech in 2007,"Singapore is basically a conservative society," he said. "The family is the basic building block of this society. And by family in Singapore we mean one man, one woman, marrying, having children and bringing up children within that framework of a stable family unit."
From this, we can see that it would not be easy for the Singapore society to accept the legalization of homosexuality.
Laws are created based on the society and since the people of Singapore are unable to accept homosexuality, there will definitely be uproar among the citizens if homosexuality is legalized.
c) Children Welfare
If Homosexuality is legalized in Singapore, then School would need to teach its acceptability to the children.
It is in the child’s best interests that he be raised under the influence of his natural father and mother. This rule is confirmed by the evident difficulties faced by the many children who are orphans or are raised by a single parent, a relative, or a foster parent.
The unfortunate situation of these children will be the norm for all children of a same-sex.
“Marriage.” A child of homosexuals will always be deprived of either his natural mother or father. He will necessarily be raised by one party who has no blood relationship with him. He will always be deprived of either a mother or a father role model.
Homosexuality ignores a child’s best interests.
4) What are the possible counter-arguments to the claim?
a) No harm caused
Scientists have discovered that a person can become homosexual in the womb. Some of the homosexuals are unable to control how they feel.
b) 21st Century and Human Rights
Homosexuality legalization is one of equality between citizen .If any people love each other; they should be allowed to legalize and confirm that love. It doesn 't matter who you are since everyone deserves the right to love.
Since individual rights are grounded in the nature of human beings as human beings, homosexuals do not deserve any more or less rights than heterosexuals.
Sometimes it is claimed that homosexuality is wrong because it is “unnatural,” and even a “perversion of our sexual capacity,” which supposedly exists for the purpose of reproduction. However, we should beware of equating “natural” with “good.”
5) What are the Rebuttals to address the counter-arguments?
a) Singapore’s existing decreasing birth rate
If Singapore does not raise its birth rate, the number of grandchildren of today 's generation will shrink by two-thirds - and will still have to support their parents and grandparents.
Apart from the increased burden tomorrow 's generations will face, the shrinking citizen population will also mean a shrinking local workforce. So, while efforts are being made to get more Singaporeans to reproduce, immigrants are needed fill the gap to maintain the Singapore core. say something along the line: Singapore already have a decreasing birth rate and the reason is not because of homosexuality but more Singaporeans not wanting to get chain down by children. If Singapore is already facing a decreasing birth rate, what about when homosexuality is accepted? More gays coming out of the closet, which means more are not marrying an opposite gender nor producing babies. This would probably cause Singapore’s birth rate to decrease even further! b) 21st Century and Human Rights
Even though we may be in the 21st century and human tend to have more of their own rights. It will never be good to love the same gender as there are no benefits at all! Also, if we use the reason on that it is the 21st century and people should have more freedom and rights, to legalize homosexuality, many other laws can also be legalized. Some examples include taking of drugs and pedophilia.
c) No harm caused
If we use the reason no harm cause to back up legalizing of homosexuality, this can lead to many other complications. For example, if taking drugs and not harming people is also considered as no harm. Should illegal drugs be legalized then?
6) What is the final conclusion?
Same sex marriage is an issue that would cause uproar and we strongly believe that the public would give a very negative response to it. We feel that all these reasons would be taken into serious considerations and that the final conclusion that we have arrived at proves that the response would be negative.
In conclusion, we strongly believe that Same Sex Marriage should not be legalized in Singapore.

Many areas of science resolve the issue of homosexuality as a sexual ethics dilemma by analysing the causes of homosexuality. Sigmund Freud claimed that homosexuality is a personality disorder resulting from a person’s failure to deal with repressed issues of sexuality from infancy and to develop fully into mature sexuality. He claimed that the causes of homosexuality simply trace back to the relationship between a child and their parents. Many researchers believe that homosexuality may be the result of an imbalance of the hormones or a genetic disorder. Both these arguments go some way to solving this dilemma as both conclusions suggest that homosexuality is not a moral choice and cannot be prevented or supressed.…

Marriage has been one of the most fundamental principals of human society since the beginning of time. Traditionally understood marriage is restricted to two people, particularly a women and a man. Since the nature of marriage is changing with modern times and people are marrying for love not just social needs should the notion that is reviewed by society and this long- confirmed definition be reconfigured and opened in order to make same-sex marriage suitable in society or refuse same-sex marriage? More than half of all people in the United States oppose gay marriage, even though three fourths are otherwise supportive of gay rights. This means that many of the same people who are even passionately in favor of gay rights oppose gays on this one issue (Bidstrup). Many moral controversies revolve around gay marriage such as, marriage is an institution between one man and one woman and gay relationships are immoral. John Corvino rejects the view that homosexuality is immoral in his article, “Why Shouldn’t Tommy and Jim Have Sex? A Defense of Homosexuality.” He responds to two arguments against homosexual sex, that it is unnatural and harmful. Unnatural refers to that which deviates from the norm, from what most people do. Corvino distinguishes various senses of “unnatural” and his overall conclusion in this regard is that homosexual sex is not unnatural in any morally relevant sense. He defends the practice of homosexuality against the charge that is harmful. He takes issue both with the claim that the practice of homosexuality is harmful to those who engage in it and with the claim that others are threatened by it (Mappes). Many people believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman because that is the view installed throughout the Bible. One major notion commonly heard is, God made Adam and Even and that is what binds marriage and morality. Many believe same-sex marriage is immoral but who is permitted to determine the morality of…

Gay marriage is one of the most controversial yet sensitive topics that have been discussed around the world. Politicians often hold debates on this subject trying to decide whether it should be legal for same sexes to be married. Gay marriage is often viewed as being wrong by religious people because marriage is portrayed as a woman and man uniting, not woman to woman or man to man. Others view gay marriage as an act that is protected by our constitution; we have the right to marry whomever we want as Americans. The United States being a free country is what other countries view us as, and for us to discriminate against gay marriage goes back on what we stand for.…

"Most supporters of same-sex marriage contend that gay and lesbian couples should be treated no differently than their heterosexual counterparts and that they should be able to marry like anyone else" (Masci, par. 2). Gay marriage may conflict with some religions, but who's to say what people can believe in? Many people believe, or do not believe, in many different things and it is up to the homosexual and what he or she believes in to determine whether that person can get married or not. Gays shouldn't be treated differently, because they are regular people like everyone else in the world. Besides, denying gays of marriage "is a violation of religious freedom… [and] the First Amendment of the Constitution clearly states that a person's religious views or lack thereof must be protected" (Messerli, par. 2).…

An indisputable fact about humanity is that every individual owes their existence to the physical union between their father and mother, and this reality forms the basis for the concept of family. However, anthropologists clearly point out that the existence of homosexuality has been identified in some societies at different degrees of prevalence throughout the history. The trait of homosexuality can be simply defined as the sexual attraction between the individuals of the same sex. A homosexual person in the male gender is called ‘gay’ while the term ‘lesbian’ represents a homosexual female. Over the past three decades, the number of homosexuals has dramatically increased and such trait has increasingly grown to be mainstream and open.…

The bible says “one man to one woman” I believe most religions believe that God created Adam and eve as the first human beings and soul mates.
