Should Chemical Engineers Have A Dress Code
If you’ve ever seen a chemical engineer at work, you know they have a strict dress code. Is a dress code necessary for a job like chemical engineering? Working near chemicals and machines can be very dangerous if you don’t take precautions and many people have gotten injured by not wearing safety gear. Also, you can be fired for dressing inappropriately for your job. Chemical engineers should be required to have a dress code for safety reasons and to look professional. Wearing safety gear around machines and chemicals is very important so you don’t injure yourself or others. Wearing gloves, masks, chemical resistant clothing, goggles, steel toed shoes, ear plugs, and hard hats are all requirements for most chemical engineers. Chemical burns and breathing in harsh chemicals can be prevented by wearing safety gear. Objects falling can sometimes not be prevented, following the dress code can protect you. If you come into work wearing a clown costume, your coworkers will likely laugh at you and not take you seriously. However, your colleagues will respect and listen to you while you are wearing professional attire. You will also want others to know you are serious about your job, especially when you meet important people. All workers should be required to dress appropriately for their job.
On the other hand, some people believe a dress code is not necessary for chemical engineering. You could argue that it will help with creativity and work performance. You could also have your own style if there was no dress code.
