Well, that wasn’t the case with the 12-year-old Cassius. Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. was born on 17th January 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. Clay was hanging out with his friends when he noticed that his new bicycle got stolen. He started crying and instead of running home to his parents, he went to a police officer, Joe. E. Martin, who was an American boxing coach as well. Joe was busy in training the boxers when young Clay came to him crying and started telling him what happened. Whenever Clay’s mom used to spank Rudy, clay stood between them and told her not to spank his little baby. When Clay and Rudy used to play, He used to tell Rudy to throw rocks at him. Rudy did, but clay dodged them all. He was very fast from the start. For him, it was all about his bike. When he started training with Joe Martin, he was very compassionate and thought of taking his revenge from the thief who stole his favorite bike. But then he started fighting not for revenge but to be the greatest. He would act as if his name was being called at school as Cassius Clay, heavyweight champion of the world or Cassius Clay, Golden Gloves winner. He would write it on a back of a jacket and wore it around. From the start, he wanted to be the best and he knew that he had to stay focused. When he got his first fight at the age of 12, he was walking beside his father when he saw his opponent, Ronnie O’Keefe, who was a beginner as well as and a bit older than Clay. He got frightened but when his father’s word gave him courage and the strength he needed which were “we are going to whup him”. He felt good and he won his first fight.
