School Uniforms
The introduction of school uniforms in the public school system would make a positive change for the students and the entire school. A common argument today is whether uniforms should be introduced to the public school system. I agree for many different reasons. The main reasons for having uniforms are that it would prevent bullying, create more school pride, and make school a better learning environment. An important reason for uniforms is that it would prevent bullying in school. There are a number of students around the country who are fearful of going to school every day because of being bullied. Just because they don't wear the latest fashions, they are insulted constantly. In a lot of public schools, in order to be considered popular, it is important to wear the latest clothing styles. A way to fix this ranking of students by their clothes is school uniforms. If uniforms were worn in public schools, students wouldn't have to worry about the newest clothes or what they wore at all. They wouldn't be able to be picked on because everyone else would be wearing the same thing. Students would look at each other as equals and not bully less fortunate students.

Another reason that uniforms would be beneficial is that they would create more school pride displayed by more students. In public schools, it is hard to find school pride in every group of students. There are always the groups of kids in public schools that spend their nights at home, or other places, not at the sporting events. Many don't even wear clothes that have anything about their school on them. This is just another thing that uniforms could fix. Wearing uniforms would make kids feel united. It would make them feel like it is their responsibility to support their school. They would always be wearing clothing with a school logo on it. All of this would make more school pride.

The most important reason for uniforms is that it would give the school a better learning environment. All public schools have implemented some kind of dress code that the students have to follow. Some students decide to stretch the dress code as far as they can take it without getting caught. Whether it be wearing skimpy shirts or wearing shirts with bad things on them, it causes a distraction for other students. With uniforms, there would be no way for a student to violate the dress code, and therefore, no way for other students to be distracted. It would keep other students focused on schoolwork.

For all of these reasons, I believe uniforms in school should be mandatory for all schools, not just private ones. Uniforms would prevent bullying, create more school pride, and make school a better learning environment. With uniforms, schools would be a much safer and fun place to be. While there are many problems in schools today in America, I believe this could all be helped by one thing; uniforms in school.

"Just slapping clothes on kids won't improve a school, but uniforms accompanied by other reforms can make a difference. Uniforms send a message and remind students that they are in school. Uniforms will give a sense that everyone is equal and prevent bullying. By having uniforms, students will never feel left out because of their style and what they wear. Everyone in High School is peer pressured to follow the newest styles and buy brand names in order to fit in with everyone else. This can be very pricey and not all parents are able to afford the latest fashion and brand names. When everyone is wearing the same uniform no one will feel left out because of the way they dress or their income level. I went to a uniformed school before, and it was great. All the students looked the same and were treated the same, uniforms will also represent school unity. Its better for SWL to have a uniform so that students can concentrate on learning instead of what everyone else is wearing on a daily basis.…

Everyday, school teachers and administrators try to enforce certain rules and regulations on the student body. As if it isn't hard enough for these teachers to go about their lectures and curriculum, but having to deal with defiant students is another issue. If uniforms were enforced, the stress level of teachers and even students would remain very low. Teachers would not have to worry about students being out of dress code and students would not have to worry about their image giving them more confidence. In 2007 a school district in Napa, California stated that they would soon be implementing school uniforms in the district. For the simple fact of uniforms being easier to keep up with rather than a dress code.…

Second, uniforms eliminate competition between underprivileged, middle class and high income families. Today wearing fashionable clothes in school have a tendency to distract many students from learning. Those who can’t afford name brands are often rejected by other students. Without the pressure of competing with different styles, students are more receptive and open to learning instead of concentrating on what individuals are wearing. School uniforms remove these factors from the social environment within the school, thus relieving students from the pressure to fit in.…

The first reason uniforms should not be required is that most schools across the country believe uniforms take away from an individuals identity, so they don't require their students wear them. In today's world your identity and having a good sense of self is important to the diversity that Americans have show in the past. In schools that require uniforms the student body all look the like same person, very bland and boring people. This is not what American society is, we are casual dressing diverse people, and dressing casual and the way you like is the best way to recognize students as individual people and not as part of "those people."…

I believe that if students wear school uniforms. It will probably help schools in certain areas. For example it can improve the social outcomes in a school environment and it can also reduce violence. Experts believe that "Clothing and fashion are often at the root of social conflict. Children are often ridiculed by other children because of the way they dress. Many children use clothing to express themselves and to define themselves. This self-expression and definition often leads to the formation of cliques in the school environment. Many students feel that they are judged according to what they wear by other students, as well as by teachers and administrators. School uniforms remove these factors from the social environment within the school, thus…
