Learning for me started to become a scary movie I did not want to watch. I did not want to see myself get killed by failure and doubt that I would never make it out alive. Malcolm X in “Saved” talks about how he had to teach himself how to be educated in prison and how he succeeded at teaching himself to read and write. this took a lot of ambition hard work and commitment to want to succeed. Perri Klass, in her essay “Ambition,“ talks about these same qualities, how ambition is working hard and following your dreams. However, people have to be realistic about some of their dreams and know how much they can handle. These two essays stood out to me because I have always had enough ambition to take it upon myself to learn and to teach myself…

In life, to successfully move forward I need to establish goals. “The tragedy in life is not reaching your goal, but having no goal to reach” (Leadership for Student Activities, 2005). I must have a plan of how I will achieve my goals and be able to identify when an important element of that goal is reached. Possible setbacks must be considered and purposeful schemes arranged for when the unexpected shows up. According to Deci and Ryan (1984), “Goals, whether trivial, routine, significant or life altering, are part of peoples everyday lives”.…

I believe the single most important societal problem we face today is that our generation thinks they should just be handed everything without having to work for it. This is a big problem because kids now that get everything they want. The kids that are like this are bound to fail when they get out in the real world. Our generation is going to grow up and not know what to do when a boss or supervisor tells them no because that’s what they’ve been use to all their lives. But I’m glad to say I’am not one of these people. I started working when I was fifteen umpiring at Chesterfield baseball fields. When I turned sixteen I picked up another job in the warehouse at CBennett Building Supplies to make more money. And now…
