Do you ever feel so overwhelmed by life? Going to work every morning, having class, being backed up on schoolwork, it feels like there is a well-deserved need to go on an extravagant vacation or just have a break. For you maybe, a weekend with your closest friends is enough. Watching movies, going out to dinner, do some shopping, going out drinking is your idea of a break. Going out with friends to have fun and to forget about reality for a while is always a good thing to do, it’s good for the mental state. Imagine you are out with your friends one night drinking and you get a little too drunk. You meet this dreamy guy, any woman would be lucky to have him, but so you thought. For example, the young woman is sitting or passed out on the bathroom floor with her underwear down to her ankles. That is the rhetorical strategy. The rhetorical appeal that is being demonstrated is pathos. This is because when analyzing the image the audience feels emotion; sympathy. To further demonstrate that pathos is active in this image; just the image in general the young women looks so helpless. The authors use pathos to demonstrate an image of a woman’s legs with her underwear down to her ankles. The audience gets the sense of emotion there because it is not normal for someone to be passed out on a bathroom floor. Another example of pathos being used in this PSA is the use of word choice. Where it says “She didn’t want to do it, but she couldn’t say no” it gives the audience the need to show sympathy towards the young women. Then the PSA goes on to talk about making bad decisions and how making the bad decision like going home with someone they hardly know and leading themselves into a vulnerable situation. Which can lead to date rape. Furthermore, pathos is demonstrated again, it reads, “Help your friends stay in control and stay safe.” By the authors inserting this text is too make you want to watch out for your friends and to make sure everyone makes it home
