Research on Cunsumers' Preferences for Coca Cola and Pepsi
Recommendation provided by Yayra Consulting firm for the Coca Cola Corporation and Pepsi Corporation is as follows:Based on the survey I found that a majority preferred Coca Cola over Pepsi. The consumers that preferred Coca Cola were influenced by the products taste. Both Coca Cola consumers as well as Pepsi consumers were loyal to their product of preference. In both cases I found consumers who have consumed Coca Cola and Pepsi for over 20 years. I recommend that Coca Cola continue to invest in advertisements due to the fact that from those who preferred Coca Cola were influenced by their advertisements and their use of celebrities. Consumers did say that if they did not have a choice and Pepsi was their only choice they would sometimes drink Pepsi. This leads me to recommend Coca Cola to increase their presence in areas where they currently are not. This will give the consumer an option and loyal consumers will stay with their preference. I would recommend that Coca Cola ensures that their product is available at the convenience of their consumers.

My recommendation for Pepsi would be to target the younger community by incorporating cartoon characters on their products. This recommendation is due to the fact that from those surveyed I found that the younger generation liked the Pepsi sweeter taste more than what those surveyed described as crisp flavor for Coca Cola.

    As we all know, Coca-Cola and Pepsi have been rivals for centuries. While most people have their own preference on which cola they prefer, they have no idea what makes these two cola brands so similar yet so different. While both are similar in color and taste, the biggest difference between these two brands are their sugar level. Coca-Cola, the dominant coke brand, contains less sugar compared to that of Pepsi’s. Furthermore, these two world renowned colas are said to help regain energy because of its caffeine content. In addition, Pepsi has higher caffeine content and contains more calories compared to Coke. These two cola types carbonated drinks are slightly different in taste. Coca-Cola has a slight vanilla taste to it while Pepsi has a sort of citrusy taste to it. When poured into a glass, Coca-Cola produces more “fizz” even though it is much smoother when swallowed. On the other hand, Pepsi maintains its fizzy sensation when swallowed. Despite all these differences, most people can barely tell the difference between these two colas in a blind-folded taste test. There was an experiment conducted to test students’ preference on both colas. According to Woolfolk and her associates (185-186), most college student Coke drinkers prefer Pepsi in a test where Pepsi and Coke are labeled as S and L respectively. They have concluded that college students prefer the letter S compared to L. They had conducted an experiment where both cups S and L contained half Coke and half Pepsi. Regardless of the type of cola, the students preferred cola S over cola L in 85 percent of the cases. This has proved that students’ preference on their favorite cola did not result from the preference for different colas, but the preferences for certain letters.     Effective advertising is, almost always, persuasive advertising. While not all advertising seeks to persuade, in a competitive situation, those who best persuade are those most likely to win. (O’Shaughnessy) The advertisement strategy for Pepsi Cola has done a great deal of work to make it an all-time favorite. I feel like they use persuasion by making the consumer think that if they drink Pepsi, they will be youthful. However, in my opinion, the best strategies that they use are celebrity endorsements and slogans. They use the most famous celebrities, Beyonce Knowles, Ray Charles and the Uh-huh Girls (which I think we can all remember from growing up), Britney Spears, Lionel Richie, Bob Dole, and my personal favorite, Michael Jackson. And that is just naming a few. They also use very memorable slogans such as “Gotta Have It”, “Choice of a New Generation”, and “Nothing Else is Pepsi”.     The classic battle between Coke and Pepsi has been fought over for centuries. It’s a choice of preference whether people decide over Coke or Pepsi for a beverage. Both companies are equally rated and compete very close to being the top preferred soda. Coke and Pepsi were both invented in the late 19th century and became instantly popular. Coca-Cola was originally used as a patient medicine in hospitals and nurseries, where as Pepsi was originally used as a consumer beverage. Both drinks were later revised to become soft drinks. I prefer Coca-Cola to Pepsi for a few different reasons. One reason is the taste between Coke and Pepsi.
