Aim: The aim of the following report was to determine which psychological strategies and drills improved the general skill level of the individual (Jake Bosel) and the team in relation to volleyball. The psychological strategies for our group specifically included motivation, arousal, mental imagery, feedback and goal setting.
Method: During the completion of term one, our group conducted a series of psychological and skill training sessions following tests. These were performed in the following order.
(1) Conducted psychological profiling, a game analysis and the completion of accuracy tests for multiple skills before and after training program.
(2) The data gained from the psychological and skill tests were analysed to identify both personal and team strengths and weaknesses.
(3) Once analysed a psychological strategy was selected for both the team and the individual.
(4) Each selected psychological strategy was used in a training session in which a skill was practiced. For each strategy steps 1 and 2 were repeated.
(5)At the end of term each skill was retested in a post test analysis in an attempt to show the effectiveness of the psychological strategies exhibited in the groups training sessions.
Results: The practiced strategies incorporated throughout this terms volleyball training program for our group included goal setting, feedback, mental imagery, motivation and arousal. For an outline of each training session see appendix.
A psychological profile consisting of a series of questions was also completed during term one. These questions had specific answers which were used to decide the athletes’ level of excellence, power, stress, independence, success, aggression and affiliation on a scale of 1-40. These results however were recorded but not shared amongst the team so therefore they carry no weight in this assignment.
