Many business owners have argued that raising the minimum wage would cause hardship and cause businesses to raise their prices, but many workers argue that raising the minimum wage is necessary to help low-income workers to get out of poverty. Two main issues that workers face are insufficient wages to support their families which causes them to depend on government funding. Secondly, workers are faced with decreased job satisfaction due to making low wages. In my opinion, minimum wages should be increased because it will allow workers to feel that they have job security. Additionally, increased pay will allow people to further support themselves and avoid taking benefits from the government and can use…
This source has given me more insight to the controversial debate of minimum wage. It made me realized that by increasing minimum wage we would require the middle class to pay less for the lower class standard of living, which would be aiding society. A Con would be how it might cause an unpredictable inflation within the nation, and a repeat of the great depression might occur. Overall, this article haven’t changed my view of minimum wage; it only strengthens my already adamant opinion that minimum wage should increase in the United…
In the article “Would raising the minimum wage help alleviate poverty”, David Cooper makes a valid point on the subject. Cooper talks about how he believes the minimum wage should be raised because he thinks it will help end poverty. In his column he also gives statistics on why it would be better to raise the minimum wage.…
(Hanauer)Some people may think that is so crazy. However, the result is great. Seattle is the fastest-growing big city in the America. Washington state is generating small business jobs at a higher rate than any other major state in the nation. And the restaurant business in Seattle is also growing rapidly. The one of the reason is because the fundamental law of capitalism is when workers have more money, businesses have more customers and need more workers. If the employers can pay more money to workers, the workers will have more positive attitude on their work and bring more profits for their company. Nonetheless, there is also someone against to raise the minimum wage. The video named Does the minimum wage hurt workers? Antony Davies says “Minimum wage often hurts those who are most in need of our help.” (Davies, 2012)In this video, he uses an example to explain his opinion. Here are three people work at a same restaurant, Bob, Tom and Derek. The minimum wage of them is $8 per hour. Their income is depending on how many works they done. As the result, you can…
Minimum wage is a topic that is always being discussed and debated over. One reason that this subject is so popular is because everyone who has a job is affected by the result of the wage. Some believe that the minimum should be raise to at least $9, while others strongly believe that the raise in wages will disturb the state of the economy. In the articles I have selected the pros and cons of raising the minimum wage are clearly stated. Some of the texts are editorial articles, and scholarly articles that have to do with the raise in the wage and others options on the subject.…
Hello Julia, I agree with you. minimum wage should not be raised because there will be high price production, and inflation, which will hurt consumer especially the low-income family. Raising the minimum wage commonly may be seen as a way to give a low-income worker a raise, but it resulted in a surplus since the minimum wage is a price floor. Surplus happens when the quantity of supply is greater than the quantity of demand. In this case, more people are willing to work than employers are willing to hire at the stage of minimum wage price rising and it will result in high unemployment. There would be a high unemployment rate because employers are forced to pay more which likely lead them to hire fewer workers in the workplace, especially for the small business or companies. Fewer people getting hiring mean less work is being done.…
Obama proposed raising the minimum wage to $9.00 an hour, because the United States is “the wealthiest nation on Earth.” Obama also claims “no one who works full time should have to live in poverty.” In a debate situation, typically the Democrats would vote for raising the minimum wage, while the Republicans would vote against it. Even without a debate, there are many reasons not to increase the minimum wage. If the minimum wage is increased, there would be higher risks of unemployment. Yes the people with jobs would be well off, but the people without jobs would be suffering. Obama states how increasing the minimum wage would lower the number of people in poverty, but raising the minimum wage would not help this problem. Most people that live…
Minimum wage is a serious issue in America. Many people such as president Obama has made raising the minimum wage a priority. President Obama claims it would increase earnings for millions of workers and boost the bottom lines of businesses across the country. Raising minimum wage was the core of the president campaign against “income equality.” Evidence suggests that raising minimum wage would do little to reduce poverty or inequality. Some say minimum wages increases tend to reduce employment increase job turnover discourage part time work and reduce school attendance, meanwhile increasing the minimum wage will lift wages for 28 million Americans, and grow the economy…
The United States should raise the Federal Minimum Wage to help people to afford education, help the poor, and decrease the hours of work. The United States should raise the Federal Minimum Wage to help people to afford education. Education is essential today, and…
Raising the minimum wage is a topic that often brings about much debate. But in the overall aspect, what such changes would it bring? People often fight over if it would be more of a good thing or more of a bad thing, throwing around misconstrued ideas before actually doing their research just because they heard it somewhere else. Well after much consideration, research, and discussion it does appear that it would be more beneficial to raise the minimum wage because it wouldn’t only lead to economic growth but also lead to job growth and a possible increase for job placement advances.…
This paper will talk about the subject of minimum wage in America. Right now it is a struggle for those who work and receive the 7-10 dollar an hour pay. With that type of income a family of three (two parents working (minimum wage) and one child) will only make $30, 160 in a year. Now we all know that you cannot do much with $30,160, but that does not mean that they deserve more than that. People deserve what they put in. That is why people who work hard tend to earn more money than people who do not. Here are three reasons for why the US should not raise the minimum wage. The minimum wage is for people who do not try hard enough in school, it will also raise the prices that we pay for, and it will also just make inflation increase at a much faster rate.…
One of the most commonly asked questions in our society is whether or not the government should raise the minimum wage. While raising the minimum wage would not only lift individuals out of poverty, but it would also put our economy in danger. Raising minimum wage in the United States will destroy the economy because it will increase inflation, raise the unemployment rate and decrease corporations’ fundings due to labor cost.…
Minimum Wage has been debated for frequently over the past couple years. Mainly supporting the idea to raise it, I believe that raising the minimum wage would not help or country thrive like the way it should be. They will not help reduce poverty, will not reduce not help benefit single parent families, and they are just Immoral.…
With a higher minimum wage, parents will then finally have time to be with their family. Which will prevent the children turning violent due to their parent/s being more involved in their life. If people worked in a higher minimum wage then they’ll probably be more encouraged to go school. With their sustainable paycheck, they’ll most likely have more time and the money to earn a degree so they can be prone to better opportunities. In addition, the economy will rise with a higher minimum wage. Most people think that a raise in people’s paycheck will only cause inflation or the economy will go down, when in fact, that is not true. In the report “Working Poor in America,” by Oxfam America stated, “Effects on prices are also minimal, as one study found that household food costs would rise by no more than a dime a day.” While people worry about inflation rising really high, the truth is that there will only be a minor rise of cost in food. Which should not really be a problem, since a higher minimum wage should be able to support you enough. As a further matter, the economy will rise because people won’t need to rely on government programs as much. With a higher minimum wage, people will be able to pay their bills and necessities, without having to need as much help from the government. Taxpayers…
There has been a lot of discussion regarding the increase of minimum wage across the nation. Currently, the wage is set at a low amount of $7.25 an hour. In today’s society it is almost impossible to live on only an income of $7.25 an hour especially for those who are raising a family. In President Obama’s 2013 State of the Union Address, the president proposed to raise the minimum wage to 9 dollars by the year 2015 (Luhby). A higher minimum wage would help people living in poverty by providing better means of financial stability, and it would also improve the chances of those people trying to escape poverty stricken living conditions. Another bonus to increasing the minimum wage is that it could potentially…
