Marijuana Advantage and Disadvantages

People should pay attention to the controversy about marijuana. Marijuana may not kill in a situation such as an automobile accident. In this paper it talks about the risks and benefits of using marijuana. Suicide, mental disorders, and worse depression can be bigger risks of using marijuana. All together marijuana can be less dangerous than other things such as alcohol and other drugs The medical benefits of marijuana are very helpful. Marijuana can relieve the pain of AIDs, multiple sclerosis, and the pain of heavy chemotherapy. It relieves the pain of glaucoma on the eye. Prohibition is similar to the controversy about marijuana. Many wanted alcohol outlawed just like marijuana. Even though alcohol was prohibited there were some loopholes; like the sale, Manufacture, and transportation of alcohol was outlawed, but the consumption of alcohol was not. Gangsters would sell alcohol to the speakeasies or the secret bars. Al Capone used to be the biggest gangster of his time. He set up a lot of trouble with alcohol. The 18th amendment would be ratified and the Volstead act would be thrown out on January 16th 1920.

Marijuana: Is it Good or Bad to Legalize Research
The debate over the legalization of marijuana has been very controversial in the United States. It can be used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years, and it had even been recorded in ancient Chinese writing. Marijuana should be legalized for several reasons. The government could even earn money from taxing the sale of marijuana. The value to the medical world could outweigh the potential abuse. Then also because of its importance to paper and clothing industries. All of these are reasons marijuana should be legalized and not for the reasons teenagers want it legalized.

Legalization should be considered even though groups say that marijuana is a harmful drug and that it would increase crime rates and lead users to other more dangerous substances. 16,653 people who died last year died in an automobile accident due to alcohol. While 25,168 people died last year also by an automobile accident due to drugs and alcohol other than marijuana. Why do people want to keep marijuana illegalized when zero people died due to marijuana last year?

The American Medical Association argued the benefits of marijuana. Marijuana can be less dangerous than alcohol, cigarettes, and even over the counter medicine or prescriptions. Marijuana can be the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. Why can marijuana be illegal when people can die of alcohol poisoning and approximately 400,000 premature deaths are due to cigarettes annually? Even if someone uses too much marijuana they will not do anything but sleep, but drinking too much alcohol can kill them. Doctor Lester Grinspoon, author of Marijuana: The Forbidden Medicine is a profound activist. Grinspoon states, “The only well confirmed negative effect of marijuana is confused by the smoke, which contains three times more tars and five times more carbon monoxide than tobacco. But even the heaviest marijuana smoker rarely uses as much as an average tobacco smoker.” Marijuana also relives nausea suffered by cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and the pain of those who have multiple sclerosis and AIDS. It also treats glaucoma because it lowers the pressure on the eye.

Depression and Marijuana
A recent study showed that marijuana could make depressed worse. Millions of American teens report experiencing weeks of hopelessness and loss of interest in normal daily activities, and a lot of them can be making it worse by using marijuana. Some teens use marijuana to “self-medicate” to relieve some symptoms of depression, but this can be wrong. In a survey, teens reported using marijuana and other drugs to “feel good” or relieve stress, and help them cope.
