Managing Conflict in Workplace

LSI or Life Style Inventory is an interpretation of your individual personality of oneself specifically for the purpose of management and organizational purposes. It’s used as a mechanism of improving your personality from as previously stated, you’re organizational and management strand point. If used correctly, when receiving the result of your LSI survey this should allow the individual to acknowledge their behavior styles and reinforce their thinking on the type of behavior that they may have not been aware of. This way they are able t use these skills, improve n them where need be and better their potential of inquiring a better style or improvement of a previous one and being able to use it effectively. As I look at the results of my LSI survey I can somewhat agree and disagree with the results. Before I actually go into all of the results, I would like to explain what each other the results mean. There are three separate categories on which the LSI is based off of. The constructive styles (11, 12, 1, and 2 o'clock positions) reflect self-enhancing thinking and behavior that contribute to one's level of satisfaction, ability to develop healthy relationships and work effectively with people, and proficiency at accomplishing tasks. The passive/defensive styles (3, 4, 5, and 6 o'clock positions) represent self-protecting thinking and behavior that promote the fulfillment of security needs through interaction with people. The aggressive/defensive styles (7, 8, 9, and 10 o'clock positions) describe self-promoting thinking and behavior used to maintain status/position and fulfill security needs through task-related activities.

    The primary LSI thinking style, which I had during the survey, was a conventional style of thinking. This style listed items such as that I am restrained, very conventional and avoids conflict.     The historical backdrop of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) began with Carl Jung, the organiser of analytical psychology. Jung believed that individuals are either stimulated by the outer world (Extraversion) or their own inner world (Introversion). In the same way Jung observed individuals took in data (Perceiving) or organise data and frame a conclusion (Judging). Additionally Jung noted that individuals mostly demonstrate a dominant part. In this way, in 1921, Jung distributed Psychological Types in which he displayed the thought of Jungian models (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Manual, 2012).     Life Styles Inventory (LSI) is a survey that “measures 12 specific styles of patterns of thinking that can either help or hinder a person from reaching his or her potential” (Human Synergistics). Human behavior is a perplex issue and is most often influenced by culture, religion, education, value systems, ethnic and other factors. Individuals often know what drives there particular styles but unless studied they may not know what their strengths and weaknesses actually are. The LSI survey identifies three specific styles of behavior; constructive, passive/defensive and aggressive/defensive styles. I completed the survey and it identified my highest percentile score and personal thinking style according to my circumplex is both Humanistic-Encouraging and Affiliative. I received identical scores for my primary thinking style – 38% Raw Score and 93% Percentile Score. The raw score is a range from 0 to 40 and the percentile score represents my results compared to 9,207 individuals who previously the LSI survey (Human Synergistics). My back-up and second highest score was identified as Achievement with a Raw score of 39% and a percentile score of 95%. Lastly, my limiting style and lowest score is Avoidance, with a raw score of 5% and a percentile score of 50%. Humanistic-Encouraging, Affiliative, and Achievement styles are all constructive styles, while avoidance is a passive-defensive thinking style. After completing the survey and reviewing the results I do think that the survey is very accurate in assessing my thinking styles.…

A look at my LSI styles complex radiates that my primary thinking style is linked to the avoidance category. The avoidance scale states that I tend to use the strategy of withdrawal by hiding my feelings and being shy to express myself.     According to the Life Styles Inventory results, my primary style is conventional, and my backup style is affiliative. I have always been referred to as an “old soul” and being conventional has always been my second nature. Being conventional means you that I appreciate rules and structure. I also am reliable and follow policies. Conventionalism and accounting seem to go hand in hand, so I feel confident I can use this personality trait to succeed in my career path. The results of the LSI test concluded that being affiliative was my backup style. Affiliative means that you have a genuine concern for others, and are friendly, and cooperative. I believe this result is a true representation of me. I am not one to cause waves unless absolutely necessary. I also show a lot of empathy towards others and I am always ready to listen to others concerns. I was a little surprised; however, to see how high I scored in dependent and oppositional.
