Research Proposal Question
Do violent video games cause teenagers to commit violent crimes? Most people would argue that video games cause teenagers to commit violent crimes, but not everyone agrees with that. There are many cases that people have conducted research on teenagers that have committed acts of violence after playing video games. The authors of these articles state that video games leads to aggression and violence in the people that actually become aggressive or commit crimes. One thing that wasn’t in to many of these articles was there comparison to the people that play violent video games and don’t commit violence, but they also play for the same amount of time as the people that commit the violent crimes The title of this source of information is The Entertainment Software Rating Board ESRB, an official organization website that rates every game. You can get all the ratings for each game, they break down what all the ratings mean, who rate these video games, how they reached their rating. You can also search up games that you are looking into buying. These ratings come with an age group on who should be playing these video games. It also will tell you if there is an age restriction on who can actually buy the video game with a certain rating. "Violent video games and aggressive behavior in young women”, was written by Craig A. Anderson and Christine R. Murphy; the main idea of their article is to research aggression within young women. This article is based on research conducted on ninety-one undergraduate women students that were enrolled in an introductory phycology course. Out of the ninety-one students, thirty-three played a violent video game with a female protagonist. Thirty more students played a violent video game with a male protagonist and the other twenty-seven played a nonviolent video game. The data from one of the participants wasn’t used because of the missing values on key mediating variables that was important. “Video games and youth violence: A prospective analysis in adolescents," was written by Christopher J. Ferguson, he based his research off another experiment that was conducted. There are tons of concerns about the potential inﬂuence or actually influences of violent video games on serious acts of youth aggression as well as violence have been debated in the general public. The people that have been debating about this topic are policy makers, social scientists for several decades. The author states that among all the research that has been conducted over the last several decades, there is no proof that video games cause actual well validated measures of youth violence. "Video games and aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behavior in the laboratory and in life," by Craig A. Anderson and Karen E. Dill depicts two studies in a journal of personal and social physiology. These two studies examined violent video game effects on aggression-related variables. The first study found that real-life violent video game play was positively related to aggression which leads to aggressive behavior in young people, thus creating delinquents. These children education will be affected negatively overall based on the time spent on violent video games and for people that are already characteristically aggressive. Men had a more hostile view of the world than women, based on the findings of the two researches. But like my other article, women, especially young women aren’t subject to non-aggression thoughts and violent behaviors when playing violent video games obsessively.
