It is, therefore, essential to get teachers and students familiarized with this relaxing but useful technique. This investigation intents to studies the effects that English major students can get when learning English through movies. Especially, it examines the attitudes of English teachers and English major students toward using movies to learn and teach English. It is important to choose films which the students will feel motivated to watch and appropriated with their ages and study programe. Not all films will give the same results.     Summary:The author, Elaine Minamide, writes this article “Pass the Popcorn, Please.” She takes some arguments to persuade her readers that students or children can learn history or culture from media because they are easily hooked by VCR or movies. However, older siblings debate some issues about this way.A famous cram school, called Sesame Street, succeeds to use VCR to teach English for children. The way Sesame Street using is to sing and dance. However, most educators didn’t agree until they participate in their teaching programs. Obviously, this teaching way is greater than traditional teaching way. Therefore, more and more teachers are accommodating them. For example, in the San Diego Union-Tribune focused on local teachers who frequently supplement classroom instruction with contemporary films.Maybe it is a good way for students to learn, but, however, there is also an argument which indicates students spend more time watching TV and movies than reading books. This issue needs to be explored from a broader view. In author’s opinion, she thinks that audio-visual learning is just one of teaching ways to enhance students’ learning motivations rather than substitute the main course. To sum up, there are neither advantages nor disadvantages in a new teaching way, but if this way can promote children or students to learn, they are all good ways for teachers to apply in the courses.     It has come down to people these days wanting to watch a movie over reading a book. For me it’s the glory, action, and drama of a real live movie that rills me into watching a movie over reading. Movies deliver the images and sounds directly; the content and the scene can be shown faithfully. To illustrate that this is true I created my own survey. I posted a status on Facebook saying reading a book and having to create the theme in your head or watch a movie and know exactly what is going on. The results were as expected nine out of twelve people answered that watching a movie creates a better understanding of what’s going on than in books. The human society are much more auditory and visual learners, which means they are not good at trying to figure things out in written words. For example, my college success teacher gave the class a test to take to see what our learning style was and ninety-five percent of the class were auditory or visual learners. This shows that watching a movie is helpful to some people who learn in different ways. Watching a movie allows one to multi-task and when reading a book one must concentrate on the book the whole time. For instance, when watching a movie you can sit down with a big bowl of popcorn and just keep on going as the movies goes along. When someone tries to read and eat popcorn they lose their page, their part, and it makes them start all over again. Where with a movie it allows you to stay connected and still be able to know what is going on in the movie.     Literature is a very versatile subject and is generally considered one of the most difficult subjects to teach and to study. Studying native literature in native language is not easy at all; it can not be compared with studying foreign literature in foreign language.
