Unit 3 Introduction to Equality and Inclusion in Health and Social Care

AC 1.1a,b,c,d 1) Explain what is meant by:

a) Diversity

It is regarding everybody is different, we need different things, we like and enjoy different situations. Different Cultures, languages, traditions, beliefs, etc. Everybody has different background and different experiences in their lives, all of these makes everybody different.

b) Equality

Its regarding everybody has the same rights. It’s treating people in a fair and equal way, with respect and giving them the rights and choices.

C) Inclusion

Making our guests to be the centre of planning and the decision making process about their own personal centre plans. To include and involve them. Not choosing and picking to work only with the guests that I like.

D) Discrimination

It’s when an individual is treated unfairly (bulling, left out, etc.) and not being involved in making decisions. Not to pre-judge or stereotype.

AC 1.2 2) Describe ways in which discrimination may be deliberately, or inadvertently occur in the work setting.

Lack of awareness and training. Discrimination could be intentional, ie. when someone is bulling or harassed. Or unintentional when ie. For someone is difficult to access education as there is no sufficient staff to assist this person with learning difficulty.

AC 1.3 3) Explain how practices that support equality and inclusion reduce the likelihood of discrimination. Draw as spider gram and one side put practices that support equality and the other side how this reduces discrimination.
