Hybrid Orientation

“What Have You Learned About Yourself”
There have been several things I have learned about myself that I did not know.
Comming to Pearl River Community College has taught me several different qualities about myself I had no idea I had in me. Hybrid Orientation has taught me so much more about myself as well. Two major things that have helped me learn about myself have been SiGi^3 and VARK.
SiGi^3 and VARK are two online websites that help you find a major and your unique style of learning. SiGi^3 is one of the online programs that helps students find a major or a career path.
Using SiGi^3 has been really helpful because I was one of the students who was “undecided on a major” and by me using SiGi^3 and taking the survey, it helped me realize what career path I wanted to go down. According to my SiGi^3 results my career path is Education, which I am really excited about. I have always wanted to be a teacher but I never knew whether or not I wanted to go into Education until this survey confirmed it.
VARK is the other online program that shows what type of learning style you have. I honestly did not have a clue what my learning style was until VARK showed me I was a visual learner and it showed me different types of studying techniques that I could use. Without me taking the VARK survey I would never know what my learning style was.
I really have enjoyed myself here at Pearl River Community College and have learned so much about myself that I did not know. I cannot wait to reveal the rest of myself throughout my college years. Not only has SiGi^3 and VARK helped me but this Hybrid Orientation class

has helped me as well. I feel that I will be very successful throughout my college years because of this class. I cannot wait to see how well I can use the materials I have learned in this class to help me for when I transfer to an university.

The Vark Questionnaire was used to evaluate an individual’s learning style which produced the following results: Visual (7), Aural (5), Read/Write (6), and Kinesthetic (9). The individual scored highest in Kinesthetic, but the final preference would be what is known as multimodal because the scores are very similar. A multimodal individual or Vark Type One can adapt to any situation and will prefer to shift modes based upon the situation at hand. This individual can be described as well-rounded, keeping an open mind to complete tasks with which…

In order for students to maximize their learning experience is important to be aware of their preferred learning style. A great tool that is used to determine the learning style preferences is the VARK (, audio, reading / writing, visual kinesthetic) questionnaire. Assessing VARK learning style was developed by Neil Fleming in 1987. The questionnaire consists of 16 questions with multiple response options. Respondents are allowed to skip a question or multiple choice response options if necessary (Barman, Jaafar, and Rahim, 2009). Those who took the survey questions are easy to relate to, because they are based on real life situations (Rogers, 2009). Once the completed questionnaire a score is provided along with the corresponding preference learning and learning strategies identified. It is necessary that students are aware of their learning style preference and knowing the best way to study to reach their full learning potential. This article will discuss the results of the questionnaire Vark author of this work.…

Some persons maybe a Visual learner meaning that they learn by looking at pictures or diagrams. Others may be Aural, by listening they learn best. There is also a learning style that best suits some individuals called the Read/Write where individuals learn by taking notes and reading in order to memorizing.
