Ray came from a small town in Florida,he was born into poverty and had 1 little brother, and only lived with his mom he never knew his dad. Ray Charles helped create the R&B music genre. Ray won 13 grammy awards, and he was also introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ray was one of the best R&B players in the 20th century.

Ray had always liked how Nat King Cole made the piano and been thinking of playing himself (Hoffmann,2005). Nat King Cole was one of the biggest influences on Ray Charles.
When Ray first started out not many people listened to his music nor did they like it very much.Even though Ray had started losing his vision he still didn’t give up,he had finally lost his vision at age 7, then after that he went to the Saint Augustine school for the Blind and Deaf in Florida in the years 1937-45 (Hoffmann,2005). Also Ray helped put together the Nat King Cole-influenced McSon trio ().
In all of the amazing songs Ray made only a couple stood out the most. His first big break was the song called “I got a Woman” he made this song in the year 1954 (Sloat,2006). In 1953 he had a hit song called “Mess Around” that was made with Atlantic Records (Kallen,2018). Ray had become a popular icon by playing different songs and had a very struggling career (Gulla,2017). In many musicians careers they didn’t use their real name and Ray was one of those people. Ray worked at ABC and started off his work there with the singer,songwriter,bluesman,Percy Mayfield they worked on the song "Hit The Road Jack",they made this in the year 1961,and it became #1 hit song on the music charts (Kallen,2018). His songs were big hits and he recorded with with Atlantic Records,he made it in the 1950s (Carlin,2005). He was very surprised at how popular all of his music had become and in a timely manner (Fong-Torres,2011). Ray has appeared in a lot of television commercials but the best known one is the Coca-Cola one but he also made one with Aretha Franklin (Gulla,2017).
